  • Oleksandr Usyk has already written his name in history by collecting all the cruiserweight belts. But he didn't stop there and soared to the very top of the royal division. Now is the right time to take a closer look at his boxing journey in both the amateur and professional rings.

The fact that Beterviev offered such equal fights to Usyk despite his size disadvantage is nuts. Most dangerous at 176 right now.

@Philip Matsikoudis That could have fight of the year all over it. Beterbiev will not be the underdog to me. I think he will KO Bivol. Not to take anything from Bivol, he is a great fighter. You are right, not to be missed.

And a work ethic that compares with Rocky Marciano. Usyk practices holding his breath underwater for three minutes at a time for 12 simulated rounds. I've never heard of anyone doing that regimen before.

    • John CGW
      John CGW Місяць тому

@Lion of Finland Not sure. He wants Fury but Fury is waffling as usual. Despite all the hype, take a step back and look at what Fury's career is like.
The win against Wlad, in a fight that neither threw a punch, and he's beaten Wilder, who has beaten nobody.
He also has two very dubious 'sins' on his resume. John MacDermott got robbed, and there's a case to be made for Otto Wallin. I'm not saying he deserved to lose to Wallin, but I am saying that he is not this amazing superstar that he spouts like he is. Him and his Dad are salesepeople, and just like that salesman Trump fooled millions by just saying words, there's no substance beneath the words. Fury ducked AJ twice, he's a fraud. Now he's waffling about fighting Usyk. It's a shame, because maybe he is great, but we just don't know yet, cos the guy is so risk averse.

Holyfield was undefeated, too. Then he tried the heavyweight division. Double figure losses now. Bigger guys beat smaller guys. That's why there are weight divisions.

I had a temper problem as a teenager and so my Dad took me to a boxing camp . I wrongly assumed that it was so I could take out frustrations on other competitors. I discovered that to lose your temper in the ring is going to get you beaten , at least if you are untrained and boxing someone who isn't. I learned something about discipline. Aaron Pryor came to the camp and told us about his life in boxing and on the streets, which was pretty awesome. He taught us so much about boxing and about life , how making bad decisions will ruin you no matter how talented you are . He was almost blind but he was still pretty young so watching him move around the ring was very cool.
I hope Usyk continues to have success. He is an incredible athlete, a good man and he deserves all the praise in the world

Usyk really fights like a male cat. Many false blows (without claws) dexterity of movements, etc. At the same time, when necessary, it can explode (bite in the neck). Amazing boxer. I would really like to see him against the "gypsy" Fury or against the "killer" Wilder.

I agree with El Doc - you guys put together a really good presentation - thank you. I'm an unashamed huge fan of the Ukraining boxing style - based on combinations, body movement, footwork and non-stop thinking and adjusting BUT - Tyson Fury is big and skilled and he's got a big ticker - Rabbit v Bear. I'd love to see Usyk retire as the unified undisputed heavy weight champion, it's a big big mountain to climb - good luck Oleksandr.

@Philip Matsikoudis actually, spending too much time as an amateur is a massive minus in the pros. Plenty of hall of fame amateurs stayed at that level for too long and it stunted their growth as pros - Ty Biggs, Henry Tillman and Jorge Luis Gonzalez come to mind.
The rules and training are just vastly different and one has to un-learn a lot of habits that worked as an amateur but would get you killed as a pro.
Clearly that hasn’t happened with Usyk, but there is absolutely no cause and effect relationship between Usyk’s 350 amateur fights and his success as a pro.

    • Philip Matsikoudis
      Philip Matsikoudis 4 місяці тому

Obviously, 99.9% of men would get their heads knocked off by any elite Boxers, including Lightweights. There is an incident where Joltin Jeff Chandler, who was the Bantamweight Champion (118 lbs.) of the world got into a brawl at a nightclub and knocked out over a dozen bouncers. Usyk has had over 350 amateur bouts in addition to his 21 pro bouts, plus innumerable rounds of sparring. That's why he has so many great accomplishments, including winning his first World Title after just 8 bouts. Usyk has an undefeated pro record against mostly top-flight opposition. Usyk has had more than enough time as a boxer in the ring since the age of 15.

@TAROTAI Tough to beat that argument. I had a book discussing all of the languages of the world (probably missed a few) and they opined that the most difficult language to learn is Finnish because there is no other language similar to it. The closest, oddly, was Hungarian. 2nd was Icelandic.

    • Peezie Forestem
Peezie Forestem 4 місяці тому +1

@TAROTAI Alright, mate, no matter how educated someone is, they can still be wrong. Let's check out "Phonetics & Orthoepy of Ukrainian language", "the pronunciation of vowels" section, I cite:
"1. Голосні звуки української мови є звуками повного творення. Вони вимовляються повнозвучно не тільки під наголосом, а й у ненаголошеній позиції."
      Which translates to:
"1.Vowels of Ukrainian language are sounds of full creation. They are pronounced fully not only when stressed, but also in an unstressed position".
"3. Голосний [о] як наголошений, так і ненаголошений вимовляється виразно, повнозвучно, ніколи не переходить у звук [а]"
      Which translates to:
      3. Vowel [о], as stressed, as is unstressed is pronounced clearly, with full sound, never transitions into [а].
      Then, continuing (3.):
      "Ненаголошене [о] перед наголошеним складом з [у] звучить з наближенням до [у]"
      Which translates to:
"Unstressed [о] before stressed syllable with [u] sounds close to [u]."
That last statement refers to what you're saying in your comment: "The vowel O can also be like U (pronounced OO)", but as you can see, the (3.) explicitly prohibits pronunciation of [o] as [a]. Show this to your wife, let's see her refute this.
I don't recall saying anything about English, if I did, then you can forget it, it was by mistake. English is a completely different language from Ukrainian, for starters, it has long and short vowels - a distinction not present in Ukrainian. There are many other distinctions, regardless, Lomachenko is not pronounced in the same way as Oslo.
      Тому давай без "бувай".

    • Andrej Premk
Andrej Premk 5 місяців тому +2

@TAROTAI Gotta love it when English natives finish Slavic male names with A instead of O. A is almost always female and O male. Lukashenka is WOMAN'S name, it's LukashenkO! My first is one of the minor Slavic languages. Our grammar is SO complicated it makes German dead simple in comparison and English non existent. We have forms of speech that I can explain to an English speaker and they say: It makes NO sense? To which I completely agree. ;) My linguist friend explains: The common language, develops in the center, the fringes retain some archaic forms long after they are left behind.

    • TAROTAI
      TAROTAI 5 місяців тому +1

@Peezie Forestem The country known as the 'Ukraine' is pronounced OO-KRAH-NEE-AH, not YOU-CRANE. As to vowels; they "deviate" when in unstressed position (e.g. а /ɑ/ → [ɐ], о /ɔ/ → [o], у /u/ → [ʊ]) like at the ned of a name that ends in O. But а /ɑ/ and о /ɔ/ "deviate" much less than in Russian. The vowel O can also be like U (pronounced OO).
Give it up mate - my wife of 15 years, is from Odesa & you can argue with her & her educated family of teachers & professors - but you are incorrect in your emphasis that an O is pronounced as the O (OH) in English - e.g. OSLO is pronounced OS-LAW (keep your mouth relaxed & open at the end) just like LOMA-CHENK-AW/AH _Buvaj_

    • Peezie Forestem
      Peezie Forestem 5 місяців тому

@TAROTAI That's exactly what I did. Ukrainian grammar says "o" is pronounced as "o", not as "aw".
Check our Google Translate pronunciation in both Russian and Ukrainian. You will hear that Russian ends with "aw" and Ukrainian ends with "o". Because that's how it is correctly pronounced in both languages.

I don’t think it’s savvy for Tyson to fight Usyk because of the risk factor so it makes business sense to fight someone else first. However if Tyson does fight again he should definitely not be allowed to duck this man.
I think Tyson will beat Usyk not because his better his not in my opinion after seeing how brilliant Usyk can box and his speed and engine are amazing. I think Tyson will smother him hurt him with inside punches while he’s tying Usyk’s arms up all very dirty . Tyson always has that reach advantage too. And Tyson is very quick for his size. It’s just physically not a good or fair matchup.
So for Usyk he has the underdog card 👍 that will suit his camp just fine.
Tyson on the other hand will have lost it all and to a smaller faster better boxer .
Yeah Tyson is correct to fight someone else first but I don’t think men like this are scared of anyone I’d never say that about Tyson
Fury I don’t think people slagging Tyson off are really looking at this from if they was in the same situation.
Anyway non of us really know what’s in someone else’s head do we.

@Dönerzombie how... if the fight had gone into the twelfth round with parker a human punchbag it would have been a much higher punches thrown vs landed for joyce in that final round, than earlier in the fight when parker had his wits and stamina about him. So his punches thrown and landed would have increased above the average for that last round. Either way, usyk doesn't want anything to do with joyce.

    • Philip Matsikoudis
      Philip Matsikoudis 4 місяці тому

@BeachBob Ross Usyk fought the better opponent when he fought Anthony Joshua. There is no question that Joshua is considered superior to Joe Parker. Usyk has also thrown over 900+ punches in a match. Finally, landing punches is what's more important, and Usyk is a far more accurate puncher than Joyce. Usyk's punches are also faster than Joyce's. Joyce does have the advantage of possessing more power in his punches than Usyk does.

Marius Bredis was the toughest match Usyk ever had. I think Olexandr Usyk will be considered the greatest boxer in history after he defeats Tyson Fury. Usyk's skills are unmatched. He is also quite the dancer. Without question, Usyk could be a professional dancer. Usyk wins over Fury in a tough bout, but there is no doubt that Usyk wins a Unanimous decision.

I'd say he has a level of endurance only rivaled by Rocky Marciano, who like Usyk, had his best rounds during the Championship Rounds. Both could fight the last round with even more energy than the 1st round., while their opponents were fatigued. Look for that to happen when Usyk defeats Fury.

“Boxer X is scared of boxer Y” is one of the dumbest sports arguments. Athletes are confident people. Boxers in particular have to be extra confident as it is a combat sport.
No top tier boxer is afraid of another top tier boxer. Their managers might steer them away from certain opponents. Other opponents may not be worth the risk/reward. But to think that an undefeated champion is afraid of anyone in his division is idiotic.

    • Mark Cynic

      @Philip Matsikoudis
No, the professional boxer Joyce who smashed Parker. Different animal. They met a decade ago as amateurs when Joyce was still inexperienced and midget Usyk had fought over 300 amateur bouts. Usyk, then, as now didn't have any punch power. Couldn't stop Joyce coming forward and couldn't hurt him. Since then Joyce has turned pro beating all his heavyweight opponents inside the distance. Usyk has fought 3 bums, Witherspoon, Chisora and AJ, and couldn't hurt any one of them.
      Joyce would demolish him.
I've read so many brainless comments about boxing from so many people who really should know better. I think it's a case of " the emperor's new clothes." They believe what they want to believe, and not what is there for all to see.
Usyk will get smashed by Fury and retire. Ruiz will get smashed by Wilder and retire. Joyce, Fury and Wilder will fight it out to see who's best before they too retire from old age. Enjoy them while you can. There's no one up and coming to replace them, they're all too small, like your mind.

    Joshua is not Fury.
Who has defeated multiple champions, never lost, and beat a champion similar in size 3 times who did nothing but KO other fighters. Fury's boxing acumen, skill, size, pedigree, reach, and will alone defeats Oleksander Usyk. A cruiserweight who can't outbox him, and doesn't have the power to damage him.
Fury has almost every single advantage on paper against him. I think the sympathy generated for the plight of Ukraine has influenced certain people's thinking. Rest assured, this is the greatest opponent Usyk has ever faced. And he will not defeat Fury.

While Fury is a hard puncher, he’s known more for his craftiness and boxing than his power. And if wilder couldn’t knock him out, I don’t know that anyone can. Watch those Fury/Wilder fights. It looked like Wilder almost killed him a couple times. Somehow he got up and won. I love Usyk, but Fury is very skilled and maybe just too big. I’d love to see that fight though.

Now I bet you can't do a video on Fury, because his resume is piss poor without a decent name worth mentioning. Wlad was an already beaten ready to retire 39 y.o. Wlad hired Usyk as a sparring partner in preparation for Fury and Usyk used to school Wlad to the point he was asked to stop embarrassing Wlad in front of guest. Wlad is Fury's best name and Usyk toyed with Wlad. Usyk will be Fury's toughest challenge and Usyk schools Fury worse than he schooled AJ
