Apart from the contract, i think another HUGE argument for D-lo is his energy. They actually look like a team again ever since d-lo started playing. Seems like the locker room finally has some good vibes again
The Lakers will only have 134 mil in cap and will only have 4 players signed this summer with Bron and AD taking up 90 mil of that. Christie and Vanderbilt will take up another 6. That leaves around 38 mil left to fill out the other 11 roster spots. Kyrie is already making around 36 a year. The Lakers need to bring back the good young pieces they acquired and fill out the roster with really good role players. I’m not even a Lakers fan.

@Wzrd Hndrixx Kyrie is looking for a 50-56 mil per year for 4-5 years deal. The Lakers can’t afford to pay him and fill out a decent roster with depth. Also, although Kyrie is a fantastic player, he has injury issues of his own.

Kyrie Stans won’t ever address the question of what happens when Kyrie, Bron, and AD all miss games at the same time b/c of Injuries. It’s not a matter of if they will it’s a matter of WHEN it will happen. It’s going to happen. A lot of them got their heads in the clouds thinking just magically when all 3 guys get together on one team will suddenly be durable players
A top heavy big 3 team can only work if at least 2 of your 3 stars can be counted on to stay healthy. All 3 of AD, Bron, Kyrie are all injury prone at this point. Getting Kyrie is just asking for problems.
Say bye bye to DLo, Rui, and potentially AR too if we S&T for Kyrie who will hard cup us. Also say bye to our 2023 1st rounder who DAL would 100% ask for in a S&T scenario

If i remember correctly, the Laker has no cap space to give Kyrie the money he wanted. The only way they can get him is through a Sign and Trade with the Mav, Laker would lose a bunch of assets for a guy who is also as injury prone as AD and Lebron without the depth. Now that is not a good thing

So say bye bye to that depth as well that’s on a team friendly/under team control contract for 4-7 years.

Too many non-Laker fans that don't know the situation trying to give their two cents and try to say not going for Kyrie is foolish. As a Laker fan, first off, Kyrie is too expensive. If the Lakers got Kyrie, they won't be able to pay for the quality depth they've built. Guys like Reaves, Vando, D'Lo, and Rui won't be able to come back, and the Lakers would have to sign old and slow players on vet minimums, just like what they did last year and what happened then? And to the "Kyrie is NOT Russ" rebuttal, Kyrie may not be Russ playstyle-wise, but financial-wise, it will have the same impact as Russ. 3 star starters with no bench, and I can say most of us real Laker fans do not want to go through that again.
The smart move is to run it back with this roster. Best defensive team in league since the deadline and this post-deadline Lakers roster is MUCH more competitive than the roster they started the season with. Reaves literally just dropped 35/6/6 tonight, D'Lo with 18 pts, etc. LeBron needs to do what Pat Riley figuratively told him in Miami, shut up and stay in your lane. Seriously, the only player from Bron's "recommendations" that has worked out is AD and even then he's been on-and-off due to injuries
If I were a Lakers player or fan I’d just be happy that something changed and it’s looking better at all.

@GorcSauce69 Bron's out injured, Curry just returned from injury. Both the Lakers and the Warriors are fighting to be play-in teams...that's not what a winning season looks like. Could they maybe turn it around and salvage it, maybe, but neither team is looking to win a chip this year. Could it work next year...maybe. Peak in the NBA is considered 28 years old btw(it doesn't end at 28 and you've got more in ya, but that's the peak).

Don't make the mistake like you did with Westbrook. You have a good thing going with Russell. Kyrie is a risk and could be an overrated trade regardless of how Kyrie's perceived talent is, at the end of the talent isn't everything it's about chemistry with the team.
Even when the rumors of Kyrie going to the Lakers came out I already knew there's no chance Kyrie & LeBron team up again. Kyrie & LeBron on the same team is one of those things that only happen once & never again
There's a lot of variables, but I love the idea of running it back. Aside from injuries being a factor, my microscope is on AD and Coach Ham because I honestly think AD no longer fits with the team

Here's the thing - if Bronny is good enough to get into the league after 1 year in either college or the G League LeBron's gone in '24. What would you have then? An older AD and ol reliable Kyrie on a long-term contract taking cap space where you can keep more of this unit intact
This Lakers team is ok so far. It's what it should have looked like at the start of the season in order to just be decent. We need more, if DLO needs to go, sorry to see him go but we want to win. I would probably keep DLO, Vanderbilt and AR. Trade Brown, Beasly, Shrouder and AD if we have to just, to get Kyrie Irving. We can get a decent center that can play defense and leave most of the scoring on Bron and Kyrie. Kyrie won't be a streek scorer. He will put up at least 20 a night if he is playing, and upwards of 50 if he goes off. Yes we need Kyrie and Rob Pelanka better get him a center worth a lick and trade mombamba too please....

Its not even what bron wanted. But who they had for kyrie? They didn't had draft picks or anything remotely close of matching his abilities to give in return. They couldn't give up the farm like they did with ad theres nothing there. Bron lucky he got this huge upgrade instead. Not only helps him but also keeps the team from being in shambles when he leaves.

Kyrie is a far better player however he is unreliable. He is injurie prone, his character makes it hard to bond with teammates and its often a issue. Costs more than Dlo so I don't think its worth going after Kyrie for a player who you don't even know what you are going to get. With Dlo you know what you going to get and he managed to be a good teammate and stay out of controversy unlike Kyrie that it keeps following him everywhere. And I'm saying it with all the pain in my heart bc I was a Kyrie fan.

They could have had Buddy Hield and Myles Turner but got Westbrook instead. I have to applaud Rob Pelinka for doing successful damage control on Lebron’s awful free agency decision making. He’s not a GM, he failed as a GM, he needs to play ball. He has every right to ask for more talent and request specific players but I highly doubt Westbrook was Pelinka’s first choice considering the excellent roster he resurrected with sheer willpower.
The Myles Turner addition would have been excellent. It would allow AD to play the role Vando is playing now with more floor spacing and Hield would play the 2 with excellent 3 pt shooting and he’s certainly better than Beasley. Schroeder could then be inserted into the starting lineup with Bev coming off the bench to provide a spark on defense.

NO TO KYRIE… keep the team that they have right now and run it back next season. The Lakers have a more improved, YOUNGER, and hungry players. Why would they let go of such good players to get 1 superstar who is mostly unreliable and don’t know what he’s going to do in a season? Then they have to adjust and rebuild team chemistry? It also depends on what the new players want to do in the off season. Some of their value will go up and I’m sure a lot of teams are going to try to get them. If it is possible, I hope the Lakers FO will be able to resign all of them, but the reality is…I think some players will probably leave either for more money or to have more playing time. So maybe they can pick up another big guy or SG or SF.. again depending who stays or goes.
I agree. Restructure around the youth, a "post LeBron plan". LeBron can help the Lakers in creating a strong core to bring future success.
To restructure a team around LeBron is high risk, he is not an individual that has demonstrated a level of accountability in which they should place the future of their organisation upon.
Bron has tired my patients with his misguided need for control. He doesn't care about anything but talent, and his contractual leverage over squad desicions. He has gaslighted himself into his basketball brilliance, when his squad desicions have been largely trash, AD not with standing, but his body has gone back to being unreliable.
Griffen got kyrie out of Beleiveland cause he got his Chip, and went back to being all about himself to the detriment of Lue's ability to coach the squad. Lie kept having to make adjustments to keep kyrie happy and cooperative, which meant allowing him to have kyrie show off time, and to let him have the team at teams without James on the floor, and to allow him more on back time when Bron was on the floor. With the ideal kyrie would play team ball when they needed him to, and just enough not to break team spirit.

I rather trade DLO, 2023 pick, 2029 unprotected first and 2030 swap for Makil Bridges. Then Sign Schroder to the MLE. Austin Reaves makes DLO expendable. Bridges is as elite of a 3 and D player as there is in the NBA right now. Vanderbilt, Bridges and AD is almost unfair defensively.

Kyrie, as great as he is, he is just one guy. He can't play multiple positions on the court. If Lakers roster as it is, is healthy come playoff time, it will be quite a nightmare of a matchup for any team in the league. More dangerous than if they had Kyrie and g-leaguers... They currently have enough firepower to cover for an off night from LeBron or AD, but if it was only Kyrie, they would all have to perform for them to win...
And the defense would be vastly different... Kyrie is no stopper. LeBron is starting to lose a step or two on defensive end. Now they have some defensive talent to take on the tougher defensive matchups so LeBron or AD can conserve energy on defense.
Lakers with the youth are way more dangerous than a team without any depth.
