The fact that Astro just stares at you when it doesn't understand you is genuinely so funny to me.
I know right😂
Repent to Jesus Christ “Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done.”
Matthew 21:21 NIV
J
@Repent and believe in Jesus Christ report spam bot
Imagine a robot being impressively good at hunting you down by sound
robot tag where you gain points for cursing a blind robot definitely sounds fun to me
The robot wanting to show you its animal impressions is genuinely really funny.
Once
Then he proceeds to giving it 4/10 😆
It's cute
The watchbuds combo feels so perfect I would not be surprised to see this catch on in a more premium fashion. No need for an earbud case just use your watch. I'm def keepin' an eye on that tech.
This has been around for a few years. Only now it's finally reaching bigger name brands
I don't think they sell in the USA
If we can combine Astro's sense of direction and Roomba's vacuum skills = perfection for me!
Sometimes I strangle Mr. Willy and the white stuff comes out
A vaccum that you can summon with your voice to clean up a spill, yeah that's a million dollar idea. Astro, clean up on isle 2 :P
Roomba + alexa already does that.
@TippyHippy no one cares, bundle of sticks
Honestly the Watchbuds are so cool. I hope the buds improve and maybe the unit as a whole gets a little smaller, but honestly I feel like pulling headphones out of your watch is going to make you feel like James Bond and that kinda makes up for the substandard audio quality. I'd definitely get one if they make an improved 2.0
Protip: You could always wear your Watchbuds to block out the heckling when you’re wearing your Shift Moonwalkers!
lol
Or to block out all the catcalls from all the women who are drawn to a moonwalking man
😂
some guy at Amazon HQ watchin you: cringe
While drinking a drink brought by Astro 😅
I can see astro being used as a very fancy pet cam for when you're not home. You can check where the pets are in the house and what they're up to. It would be cool if you could command astro to give them treats or if you could talk to your pets through astro.
Until your pets are terrified of them 🤣
@Andrew Manganelli Depends on what pets, and how well you acclimate them to it
Until my German Shepard grabs it, shakes it and swings it across. 😅
@Sameer Dawood I suppose it will depend on your dog, although I believe german shepards are quite intelligent, maybe they can be trained to not treat it like a toy somehow
Astro rolling around and announcing that it can make whale and bird noises and then loudly doing it without being prompting is genuinely hilarious. Imagine watching a movie or spending time with a loved one and this little robot rolls in and starts squawking hahaha.
I don't think I've ever laughed as much with a tech review than when he was talking about Astro
Some of the experiential features of that robot are actually really cool, the way it turns and faces you may seem uninteresting but that goes a long way with your enjoyment of the product. The bot staring at you with a blank expression and no cues when it doesn't understand you is the most Bezos-made product function ever.
I honestly love that blank stare feature. It’s kinda how communicating with a human is. I hate it when my Google home or alexa doesn’t understand me and then it goes on a long run-on sentence explaining how it didn’t understand and why and what it actually will understand and what not.
@Kevin Penfoldi agree with you about the google or alexa explanations being annoying. but i think the astro should maybe make a confused face or something if it doesn’t understand. a blank face is kind of psychotic
And also spying on you
The watchbud combo must be for the cases where you want to use your watch as your phone - I always felt like the loudspeaker is what stops me from using watch for a call - this solves it.
So happy to see Astro finally make his first official appearance on this channel after being talked about and cameoing everywhere else
so it's a robot puppy
@mtown pyro basically 😊
Mac is a little bit cuter IMO. And a LOT more photogenic.
@Muhammed Shanif
😮
Huawei reminds me of Sega, always pushing tech forward by thinking outside the box and not worrying about failing. Unfortunately that's how we lose these types of companies who take risks while Apple sits back and lets people beta test the tech and then they "revolutionize" the idea and say they are the worlds first. I expect Apple copying this idea in about 5 years or so. Its really dope and amazing. I actually might have to buy these just to show my support.
So True! I tell you a couple of years down the line when apple are at the wits' end, they'll throw this in the mix, and fan boys will be like 'Wow, who'd have thought this' their selective amnesia is preposterous & atrocious!!!
Same cus Sega is dead
Apple the piggyback of the tech industry
Outside the box! Really this is a gadget. Hemp or graphene ever gets off the ground. Weight of object will be a thing of the past. Alloy metals with graphene and plastic with hemp will make objects tougher lighter.
To be fair, Apple makes really quality products. They always feel good in hand and high quality. Though they may not “invent” the product, they sure are good at making them better quality.
I think Marques has a natural ability to communicate to the viewer as if you are the only person he is talking too.
2:56 "It also likes to randomly remind you it can act like a bird or a whale. And then it'll actually do it. Loudly."
As a father of 3, I'd like to inform you that your robot is a preschooler.
The whole thing where Astro can always look exactly where you are is crazy, they're doing some insane software trickery to be able to pinpoint your location like that!
Or just 4-6 directional microphones placed on different sides of Astro, I'd imagine that would get you pretty close by just comparing the sound level from each one of them?
The watch / earbud combo is genius. If it continues to be improved and comes down in price a little bit I'd love them
I love that my Astro can bring me drinks.
I do have to rent a small child to move the drink from the fridge to the cup holder, though.
Ayo.
😂
😂
what's the required or recommended age gap that child has to be ?
am asking incase i need one for Christmas 🎄
Why rent when you can kidnap???
I feel like Astro's adorable presence in the house with him moving around with that face is more than enough reason for a lot of people to buy him. Like I'd personally like an imperfect but cute baby robot zooming around the house at times XD
@Vincent Garcia I just explained why the purpose of simply existing would be enough for alot of people. Also our phones already collect literally everything, even the mic is collecting data all the time, if the government or any other organization wants to know about you there already enough data that they'll know more about you than you know yourself. So adding another one won't change anything at this point.
I could probably do it if it were Apple, which “seems” to focus more on privacy and security, but no way I’d trust Amazon or Google.
@Kato Leonard yeah
@Kato Leonard not trusting Google isn't a choice, your literal search engine, your emails, youtube, even your maps. They know what you like, where you go, your work hours, when you're home late, your interests, hobbies, your different personalities , everything.
Yeah unless you house has stairs or kids.
I love the robot's design, I really hope those designers/engineers get to work on more stuff like that. I've always loved stylized optimized robot designed compared to humanoid robots or ones trying to mimic something familiar instead of being designed optimally for its task. The facial animations are also brilliant, but it seems like they couldn't finish all the different expressions they would've liked for a really friendly UX.
I wonder how a good conversational AI like ChatGPT would work in a robot like Astro. Amazon is probably working on their own though.
Loving your work. Keep bringing new tech to our screens and now that I'm a sub, I'll keep watching and sharing
Roller skates, compared to roller blades, had their brake pad in front which made them ideal for going up/down stairs or steep hills. I used to "tip-toe" by using the brake pad on the ground with the front wheels as horizontal balance. Been decades since I've been on a skateboard or roller skates/blades.
I love this series, your reviews are always honest and from the perspective of someone who just loves new tech regardless of how ridiculous it may be, which is how I would feel if I were trying these out.
Gotta love and appreciate the underappreciated self-orienting feature of the earbuds. Not only are these easy to use from a user's perspective, but also from the manufacturer's viewpoint, these earbuds are easy to build. Meaning you only need a single die, with a single kind electronics layout and can be sold in single units too.
Dang, that's such a good point. Lots of people lose or misplace just one earbud. Being able to buy just one would be nice
@Lord Mango not just being able to buy one but not needing to try and convey that they lost the left or right. It happens more often than you think someone needs a replacement, they are asked if they lost left or right, they get the wrong earpiece (usually due to miscommunication).
@Kinkajou1015 If only a manufacturer would print a simple L and R on the earpiece then these miscommunication problems could be solved....but even then you have to overcome the largest hurdle of all, the end user
I want those without the watch.
If they would sell just the earbuds by themselves at a cheaper price I would definitely consider it just for the effort you'd save trying to figure out which one is right or left. I'm in the dark a lot of the time because I work 3rd shift and it's such a pain trying to either feel which one is which or turn my flashlight on to see the hard to read indented plastic and it's entirely a nuisance. I would actually get the watch and earbud combo if it was a little cheaper. I actually like the idea of a standalone product with some mediocre earbuds attached
Great video! I'm excited to see how technology continues to improve and make our life even easier.
These are my favorite kind of videos from Marques. Even if a lot of what's shown isn't practical or really useful I like seeing different implementations of ideas in the tech world. Iteration is the soul of tech in my opinion
I thought the same thing about 2-in1s until I got a used surface laptop off ebay for 200 bucks. It was still like new and somehow combined everything I wanted in a laptop, mainly a 13 inch screen that could detach as a standalone tablet while still working on my lap unlike the regular surfaces with the flimsy keyboards and active stylus support, then added in an extended battery and dedicated gpu in the keyboard for what's basically chump change in the laptop world. Also I refuse to give up my original huawei watch because it looks so good in the black with the black metal clasp band and a classic looking black and white face from facer. Still get compliments on that thing all the time.
I've seen the watchbud idea on Amazon but it doesn't seem like any premium brands have adapted the idea yet, it seems like a good step forward.
That watch ear buds combo sounds like a great idea, like I'd be down for a much bigger pixel watch if it also stored my pixel buds. Hopefully someone decides to build one thats good at both things.
These earbuds actually feel like the future of earbuds in terms of size, format and convenience. Love that you don't care which is left and which is right.
Also for the ladies who don't always have the luxury of pockets. Or if they could be made waterprof swimmers.
Yes apple will copy it and everyone will go crazy on how revolutionary apple is
@KonkaniHits sadly I don’t see apple ever copying that because they are all about making slimmer and more compact devices
thats a bad business strategy. Instead of selling two distinct products, apple would be selling one that functions as two.
@malay thakkar kind of ironic considering the newest apple watch which is thicker than the others
Like I said in your Short video, the smartwatch earbud combo has been out for more than 4 years now. There are various versions on Amazon and a lot less than the $500 Huawei. They average between $40 - $150 and at that cost range you can't go wrong with trying them out.....I have been using them for over 2 years now and I love them......especially while traveling...
I can't imagine they're very good for $150 tho eh? How's the audio quality, battery life etc? I typically just throw my galaxy buds sans case in my jeans if i can't carry the case
Gonna get two Astros and create my own Robot Wars
There are good inventions that opens new markets or solves existing issues but there are also just plain simply dumb ideas. Thank you for showing us both :)
I think the idea of the Huwai watch with buds is cool. They can always improve on the quality of the product but the idea is definitely cool. If for nothing else, even if u subtract any special features, just as a case for earbuds is cool in self !!! One less thing to carry
Man, technology never ceases to amaze me
Real
Why? Everything here is bad. Not only the functionality, but each is purporting to solve a problem that, for the most part, does not exist. This is as underwhelming as technology gets.
@Sam Omar The best ideas come from bad ideas.
@Marzoval NFT bros will be relieved
That's the beauty of tech. It always keeps evolving. Too bad I won't live long enough to see humanity reach into the stars to travel to other worlds.
the watchbuds seem like a product thatll definitely get better with a second gen. better sound quality, lighter build, lower price. its definitely a product for people who are more minimalist with what they carry. you take your backpack everywhere with headphones and chargers and everything, but for someone who only carries a wallet, phone, keys, maybe a water bottle if theyre gonna be out for a while, this is definitely a great product for them
I think the real key point of new tech isn’t that it’s a great product but that it opens a previously unopened door to progression. Look at the very first pair of true wireless earbuds , they were awful but they kicked off the development process to where we are now
Great tech review. I'm loving the earrbuds.
It would be nice if the astro had an extendable display stand so that the height of the display would be more ergonomic.
The huawei watch buds are an awesome idea and I want a better version of it. Hopefully they can thin it down eventually... and get better sound.
That robot has a lot of rooms to improve. That will be very interesting to see the next versions.
I think Amazon laid off a ton of people responsible for developing it so I question if there will be a Gen. 2
@whenhen Pfft, Amazon just throws stuff at the wall and sees what sticks all the time. Think of all the "Fire" product line. Remember the phone they made? Risible. The tablets? Cheap but not the right kind.
@VaporSprite the tablets are pretty popular with parents of young kids. Good price and good parental controls. Pretty crappy hardware but a 3 year old probably won’t care. They make up a surprisingly large portion of the tablet market share considering how cheap a lot of Google Play Android tablets are.
The Astro just has no real market potential
Ditch the cup holder and put a roomba
Not sure if you've covered this type of product before but I've been looking into getting a good quality multipurpose portable projector for on-the-go usage that's also not at an astronomical price point but there are just sooo many to choose from. I'd greatly appreciate your insight on the subject if you do happen to find one you really like for a future video!
Great and fun video. I would love to see you test ”virtual drums” like Freedrum. Are these a good replacement for a bulky and noisy drumset or pure sh-t?
Every day we come closer to having genuine, viable Air Treks and I'm all for it.
I think the watch buds is a really good idea just needs time to maybe get better
Love the dope tech episodes. Neat stuff out there!
The watch and earbud combo is crazy!!! I hate having to carry my galaxy buds around taking up room in my pocket.
Its a tough world we live in- the struggle is real
Samsung and Apple need to step it up they both make good quality earbuds they just need to have it setup like this!!
OH NO MY SAMSUNG BEANS!
@nothing here, just a brick #roadto10 what a nugget!
Great job on the video Marques! Thanks for making it.
Thank you for not bogging this video down with your iphone bias. I was watching it wondering how apple was going to fit in! I was very surprised to see that there was not one mention of the company or their crappy phone.
Nice video!!! Honestly, it's probably one of your best!
they should've made the ear buds very finely tuned for phone calls. noise suppression and whatever else
Total fan of the different angles and spaces for this particular video! 📹
Hot take: Astro is Amazon's test platform for making home robots to understand how people would interact with them.
I love how the earbuds self-orient channels. That could be really convenient even on regular earbuds. I guess it could limit the comfort or fit to make them symmetrical, though.
Make the fit rely on attached rubber/silicone wings
Yeah. It wouldn't work well for comfort. Those bullet style buds are really uncomfortable.
And for me personally I don't like the rubber wings that would be the only good fix
Could be sold in singles, just in case one was lost/ect
@TreesPlease42 That could help with the fit, but I don't think they could be symmetrical with wings. Maybe symmetrical wings are possible, but that seems uncomfortable to me.
I think you should review more caskets. You’re incredibly good at it. You’re good at everything🙂
Astro is like the robot dog we didn't know we wanted but we need.
Interesting concepts.
I am most intrigued by the _Huawei Watch Buds_ . I was sure the watch would be the limited part of the 2-in-1 since it's bulkier and doesnt fit as much tech inside but if the buds are the part that suffers from more compromise I am sure it is feasable to have premium buds in there as well since those don't have to suffer the compromise: They are already tiny, have the ANC on board and have wireless charging to begin with.
Don't listen it's a scam!
the wheely shoes have come a long way since the early prototype but it’s tough to beat a hover board or one wheel
For once I got them before any UAclipsr reviewed them and I love it! Impressive, what Huawei can pack into those tiny buds. The big plus is you don't have to carry an additional case for the buds with you. I got the AiPower Wearbuds before, but as cool as they are, the whole Fitband-shaped watch is too thick for my whrist, so that's why these Huawei are a step closer to minimization.
How is a bottle supposed to get into the holder of that Amazon Astra, if not someine puts it in there?!?!
Well, normal rollerblades do also expand your movement without too much weight and noise. You're telling me, the feeling I have on those flat rolling stairs is worth 1400?
Setting low expectations and then exceeding them is my trick to success at work. I tell students I'll respond to emails within 48 hours. And then actually usually respond in less than three minutes. 😂
Wish you were my teacher
Much better than over promising and under delivering (unfortunately that's my main problem right now)
Mr Halley, I didn't expect to find you on UAclips especially marque's Chanel 😂😂 see you on Monday SIR
@Arcullius best teacher I've ever had bro, am really proud to say he's my teacher😁🥰😍
I've tried those shoes and they're surprisingly easy to use, but yeah the energy spent with weight and balancing makes it not that worth it. Also something that's hard to convey in videos is just how loud and clunky they are. If you're not walking on solid concrete you are going to be shaking the floor lol. Though you can do crossovers with them like ice skates when cornering at high speeds which is fun.
Those buds are such a good idea. I go no my lunch break, I often call people at that time and as I head out I have to remember my pixel buds - I don't actually need them to be great quality (I guess that will come with v2, 3). That the battery life on the watch beats anything by Samsung is also very, very compelling. Bravo.
Love the watch buds idea. Apple should make this
The robot is like a home theater when you’re on the can. Perfect height, loud speaker, bigger screen than your phone. 😂
Whoa, a smartwatch with built-in earphones? That's next-level innovation! Thanks for the detailed review, Marques. I love how this product combines two essential gadgets into one sleek and stylish design. It's perfect for people who are always on the go and want to stay connected without carrying multiple devices. Keep up the awesome tech reviews!
Thanks for reviewing the watch. I was very skeptical about it at first. Didn't think it was real lol.
It could also have a projector to show movies that’ll be great
Being a Huawei enthusiast glad to see a review of the same on your channel again. Gotta appreciate their thinking and I always admire them for bringing something new and how much they put into their R&D each year. I've seen your short clip before and anticipated it might be thick. Then, later tried myself at a Huawei store and it's crazy how they pulled this off considering it's thickness which is not bad at all, considering all other ultra watches in the market now. They should move forward with this one and pretty sure they can develop and make it even more better in the next gen. particularly headphones.
I think part of the appeal of that watch bud is that you can charge your watch and your buds case (in this case is the watch itself) at the same time... I use airpods and apple watch, I need a puck for the watch, a charger for my phone and airpods case each.. sometimes its pretty inconvenient especially if all 3 need charging at the same time
Man do I love these types of videos! Keep up the great work everyone 🔥
L
Think about testing manned flying drones. They look promising but with extremely short flying time.
Another list of fairly good tech products that nobody needed or wanted. I appreciate the "I don't recommend buying any of these" line at the beginning.
The Watch Buds is a excellent idea ! 😎
When you are on the train, and forgot your headphones at home, no more worry. 😎
My phone has a speaker built into the top. So if I quickly have to accept a phone call, I just hold the phone up to the side of my head.
There is also a mic at the bottom. Pretty good and intuitive design actually.
I love the symbolism of him shooting everything either on the floor or at a low level to symbolize his low expectations being overcome.
The astro is actually really impressive from an engineer and design aspect like when it could tell what direction your voice was from was so impressive and you just instantly pick out the bad in the product
I think the moonwalkers will be mostly used for warehouse or factory floor or airport workers. People that move around large, flat spaces with few obstacles. It's clearly not a consumer product like hover or boosted boards.
I think I'd rather just get the benefits of walking normally than spend $1,400 and then have to worry about charging my shoes every night along with my phone😅
I would get it for the hardware and then hack into it with a superior AI system.
I used to have a drone that brought me drinks but she decided she needed an upgrade.
So the cool thing about those fancy rollerskates is they are closer to an augmentation than the skateboard and the hoverboard: they're like something you would wear everyday, but supercharged. That type of wearable tech fascinates me more than anything. I get the same vibe from truly wireless earbuds with ANC and a transparency mode: you can keep them in your ears all day, and they act like an enhancement instead of an object that you pull out and employ for a particular purpose, like a hoverboard. So my recommendation would be an episode where you focus in on wearable all-day tech that shows promise. The latest in augmented reality? Smartwatches that serve a unique purpose? MIT has a shirt with vital sign sensors woven into it. Hell there has to be some dental tech out there, am I right?
It is so sad that Boosted Board went out of business. I liked their product a lot.
The Watch Buds is a cool concept, specifically as a phone replacement. I pretty much always have my iPhone and AirPods and AppleWatch on me. I am moving toward just AppleWatchUltra w/cellular and AirPods and leaving the iPhone behind whenever possible. The idea of further pairing it down to a single device that is both watch and buds, is pretty compelling.
Biggest thing you are missing is a Camera, but we went a LONG time without decent phone cameras, so maybe its okay to go without one sometimes.
Not gunna lie, as much as i HATE amazon as a company, the Astro is so freakn adorable. I don't think i'd ever be able to justify something like that, but it makes for a cute story idea.
I'd actually consider buying this for the convenience, providing tne microphone quality is decent.
That clip of you walking with the sound of the motors had me dying 😂
Alot of attention to detail; excellent. I use your content to teach high school English and it's really amazing.
If Astro did the floor moping and cleaning as he moved, it would make it much more worth it
Maybe - just maybe - "Astro 3" is gonna be amazing, and really useful being put to work in assisted living facilities/care homes.
the point of the fastest shoe is exactly that you still spen energy on walking not just travel effortlessly
Hah. The Amazon robot is c=kind of cool and totally pointless. Fun to play with but not to buy. I can definietly see some of the tech being rolled into other products - robotic vacuums, mobile video chat/comms devices, security camera's/monitors etc. Be cool to be able to send Astro off to tell the kids Dinners ready or pass them a message. And the big wide eye's and on screen messages are a clever way to communicate.
The watch/buds is actually really awesome. I' a huge fan of teh Smart Glasses like Echo or Bose Frames and the idea of combining something you always have with you (glasses or a watch) with something you randomly need access to at short notice, is really helpful. Until we get proper AR screens in Smart glasses, the idea of having a pair of hidden earbuds for when yo need them? Cool.
As for the morotised roller skates? Yeah, thats just weird. Had to pause the video to try and work out where the weird whistling was coming from. Nope!!
They promised us practical house robots that would actually do housework by 2020. I'm still waiting on that one. Sooner or later I'm going to be old and razzy and I'd like to be able to tell the house robot to get its lazy metal ass over to the fridge and fetch me another beer.
The robot sounds like a great idea for an elderly person in a retirement home. It can "keep the person company" and In case the person falls and can't get up (as it oftne happens in retirement homes) it can call out for help.
I'm enjoying this, I want more dope tech videos.
Dope is an understatement , these products are amazing 😍
That moonwalker tech is super cool! Imagine a shoe giant buying the tech or collaborating to develop a proper attachment-free discreet moonwalker shoe.
More Dope Tech! Dope Tech: Extra should be a thing, where we can see behind the scenes trying out tech that didnt make the list.
I want to see Marques takes a phone call using those smart watch earbuds and ask the Amazon robot for some errands while walking with those shoes, please.
Amazed by these companies genuinely thinking that some idiots would “need” all this crap. What a time to be alive…
Really love this format of video-please keep it up! Esp compared to that funky "Yes to everything" video haha. This still feels very MKBHD.
