  • A new study claims some popular oat-based breakfast foods marketed to children have dangerous levels of a chemical some health officials link to cancer. The non-profit Environmental Working Group says 26 samples from Quaker and General Mills products contained unsafe levels of the weed killer glyphosate. Anna Werner reports.

    ONE OF THE BIGGEST ISSUES
Is farmers not just using it as a weedkiller, but also using it as a drying agent, so they can harvest the crop early. That's why grains (oats, wheat, corn) and beans (including peanuts) are so high.
    NOTICE:
    - That cancer rates have escalated in step w/increased use of RoundUp and swiftly. We've gone from 1 in 9 getting cancer about 25 years ago to 1 in 3 today. That ain't genetics - that's environmental.
    - World Health Org has classified it as a probable carcinogen and at least 63 countries have either greatly restricted its use or plain outlawed it.

I researched that claim when I found out and was shocked (I eat organic). Organic certifies that the product is not sprayed during the growing process. Product sprayed during harvest as a desicant not labled and in a health market near you. Tutorial videos from farmers show what, how, why, and concentration of the glyphosate sprayd...

Quoting Monsanto about glyphosate safety is a complete joke, as are the "safe levels" allowed by the FDA. They have squashed hundreds of studies showing that glyphosate causes cancer. The fact that this stuff is in almost everything is a complete disaster. In this country, businessmen come before consumers. It's banned in so many countries around the world.

Referring to the so-called "Environmental Working Group" as a nonprofit says literally nothing about whether they hold an anti-glyphosate bias. Furthermore, "nonprofits" are not non-revenue. They can take in a great deal of money from sponsors who want to see a particular result. I do not place any value on the results they publish, nor should you.

The fact that we are talking about eating “ridiculous amounts” of either General Mills or Quaker Oat products causing cancer is testament to the fact that the U.S. is incapable of growing healthy foods for its citizens. It’s unethical to allow these companies to sell any product causing cancer regardless of anyone eating “ridiculous amounts” of any product.

Where are these deleterious effects in evidence?

    • Andrew J
      Andrew J Місяць тому

Even if we can believe Monsanto studies the company itself tells us that the mechanism for action is the inhibition of the shikimate pathway that we know leads to negative changes in the plant istelf and also the nutrition capabilities of the plant. More importantly it affects the probiotic bacteria in humans. it could also to some extent lead to mitochondrial changes since mitochondria are remnants of a bacteria that humans incorporated into our cells millions of years ago. so why ingest such a nasty chemical? I rather pay a little more for food.

#1: I would to know how I can tell if the cereal I’m feeding my child has glyphosate? (Does it just say it on the nutritional facts)
#2: why isn’t this talked about more then stupid celebrities and athletes kneeling?
#3: glyphosate has been tested and is known to be safe but marijuana has been around since the begging of time and they still say they don’t know enough to say if it’s safe.
I don’t understand how these things are legal, it’s really scary that the same people (government) who say this is safe to eat are the same people that say...hey if your not wearing your seat belt we will give you an expensive ticket..because we care about your safety....yea right give me a break...the more time passes and the smoke clears you realize the government just want to get rid of us.

The lawsuit was for someone who actually worked with the actual chemicals (spraying it on all the plants). It's not from infinitesimally small trace amounts in cereal. By the way, there is literally radiation from Fukushima and nuclear testings falling all over the globe at all times in very small amounts and you don't seem to mind. There's always some small amount of chemicals/etc. in everything. It's not possible to not have that.

That being said, if you don't want Roundup, stop eating grains, fruits and vegetables. They're completely unnatural foods and full of pesticides and herbicides.

    • Jaden Maze
      Jaden Maze Місяць тому

Round Up does not cause cancer. The main ingredient is glyphosate, however glyphosate is less toxic than table salt. Buying organic products will not solve anything. There's no way they keep organic foods that good for that long, the have got to be putting something on it. Listen to what they study says in the video. They said that it was a probable carcinogen, not that it was. They have no proof. They are just like other people, spreading misinformation that sparks fear in consumers for no reason. Do not make assumptions like this without doing proper research from unbiased websites. We as farmers take pride in growing food for the American people, so you really think we are going to expose ourselves and our children to unsafe chemicals?

+Paula Your notion that people are getting cancer from the chemicals in our food is ridiculous. If you want to know why cancer rates are increasing, take a look at your bathroom scale. If you are an American, the odds are very good that you are obese. The rise in American cancer rates exactly matches the rise in obesity. We are not being made fat against our will - we are greedy swine who cannot control our own desires. In societies around the world, increased wealth equates to increased obesity, and the cancer rates move up right along with our waistlines.
People live longer today as well - cancer is a disease most commonly associated with older people. More older people = more cancer diagnoses. The percent of Americans over 65 is the fastest growing group of Americans, and so the cancer rate is higher. Fat people are fat either because they WANT to be fat, or because they just don't care about their lives. No one gets fat accidentally or from a virus. It isn't a disease, like chicken pox.
