- This chess hustler did some dirty tricks when he played my mother (who is a chess grandmaster), so I had to get revenge. This video was filmed in Washington Square Park in New York City a few days ago - hope you enjoy :)

@Howard I cringed when he started touching her pieces. That's just rude. (to clarify, when we was adjusting the mom's pieces, and in the middle of the game....do.not.touch.other.player's.pieces).

Sometimes they play where each move adds a few seconds. With that if you move quick enough you can build some time back up. Makes it interesting since someone can blitz a few moves then take a moment to think.

@terry riley I can't even begin to understand how people can believe that. So intelligence is correlated with how much time you practice a board game? If anything there is likely an inverse relationship between being good at chess and intelligence.
we all know mom won. dude played an illegal move therefore 1-0. but she's too graceful to worry about it and happily "lost" with incredible humility.
She has grasped GM title she is a winner for life. Ps. Piano def has a great disposition
It's not a sactioned FIDE event where they use those rules, chill. It's more of an unwritten agreement to play with good faith all other times.

I don't consider that winning when you start with more time and have a worse position. I know it is officially, but still...
He has more time, bad position, did illegal move (which make her time less). I dont take that as a win

She didn’t correctly hit the clock several times so her time was running on his turns too.
@Toaster Actually, in blitz it's officially a loss when you make an illegal move and hit the clock. So even officially, she won.

He was like Lee Trevino, using constant chatter to disrupt the opponent's thought, but when he was defeated I thought he took it well. Respect all round.
That first game he seemed to try everything, knowing she would win without his shenanigans. They all knew the GM was there! The second, he realized Anna was rapidly showing that the Cramling game is good! That was fun to watch and the spirit was good. Pia is awesome!

I've been watching chess content for a year or two, but you actually made me start playing again and I even start learning openings and different strategies and whatnot, which I had never done.. thank you for the inspiration 👌
Should've shown how mom had trouble using the clock to explain how she got so low on time and then how the hustler offered to change to a draw due to that and his illegal move at the end.

I am surprised and somewhat impressed with people who love to play chess. Especially when they lose so graciously. They seem to get excited even in defeat and want to play again. And what's with all the trash talk over the board? Sometimes it's funny but sometimes it can be a bit vicious. I'm going to have to learn to play and hit the park myself.
Online I'm 1500 rapid and roughly 1300 blitz+bullet which is 90th percentile online, but I'm still scared to play chess hustlers. I think they're around 1800 OTB rating. I hope it hoes well for you. I couldn't handle trash talk during my already weak play.
We will all look for Jame Snot Smith in the future!

Great game! His game is verbal, and he is quick with it. He uses it as a distraction to get into his opponents head. Never pay attention to the words. Chess is a mind game. Even the blind can see that.

Mom is great playing but losses in time. Dad is fast but sometimes misses stuffs and lose taking risks. And she is between their parents.

When he hit the clock after his illegal move, that is an instant forfeit. A gentleman resigns there.
A tournament player resigns. A hustler doesn't.
Especially when Mom has only 5 seconds on the clock, and lost a couple seconds because of his illegal move. Cheating.
These experienced players don't take it personally when they lose or win. It's all good-natured. Giving a GM such a time handicap is an admission that she is in another league.
