iOS 17 - The Big Feature Updates

What is your favorite feature of iOS 17? Thanks for watching, it is always appreciated.

IOS 17 looks to more of a stability update, but I am excited about the communications updates without iMessage and FaceTime to be improved.

I was really hoping for an updated control center but I do like the features that they added.

Like some others I was hoping a bit more like an updated control center but I do like the features they showed off and it’s definitely going to make the experience much better.

I really like the way they are going with customisation options! Those interactive widgets are great! Reminds me of Windows phone! Also, lock screen customisation looks great. And I like the Journal app. Way to go! 👍

iOS 17 looks really good tbh. I like that a big focus is communication and other little gimmicks. But I did expect a little more. But I’m sure more is on the way

I still want landscape mode on the home screen. Hopefully it'll come soon. However, Standby mode is one thing I've been wanting since I first saw it on the Apple Watch. I love it!

I'm really looking forward to Offline Maps in the native Apple Maps app! It's the only reason I still keep Google Maps on my iPhone. So it's nice to see Apple adopt that feature.

The only feature I was really looking forward to was more customization for the App Library. I really hope iOS 17 lets you change those categories

I hope that iOS 17 will be more stable as a whole and will give us better battery since it really didn’t introduce many new features which I see as a sign since less features should mean more focus on keeping the OS more stable and bug free.

Love the Apple presentation and Aaron has only shown a little of what we get as it’s only the first beta Developer build. Have it on my other 14 device and looks quite stable so thinking of trying on my main so I can use the Apple Watch version 10 also.

I really like the voice mail live transcript and ability to pick up on the phone.
And the contact screen is good as well. Kind of reminds me of IOS 6 and more. Yes the Dock station features are also good. Not really any complaints yet.

I expected more but this is just Beta 1 so I figured that along the way they will improve the apps and many things. But so far I really like what they did and I was excited waiting for the event! And for the IOS17!

iOS 17 doesn’t have big changes yet but these small improvements are welcome to day to day life. Also I run a quick Geekbench test and my multi core performance was beet than iOS 16.6 b2. I’m using an iPhone 12.

I’m enjoying crossfade in the music app! Weirdly, all of my preferred units somehow got reset. My weather app was in Celsius and the date format in the calendar was different until I went and updated the settings to what I previously had.

Thnx for showing us the update to the lockscreen in terms of its customizable font size! I was wondering if iOS would have those since they only showed it on iPadOS.
I like thick fonts.

Stability update and a few new, very useful features. Just what we wanted. And needed.

1000% excited about the bedside clock/weather standby mode. I've been wanting this for years!

It was nice to see daily life enhanced features added that make IOS better to use , not sure which is my favourite yet.
Just thinking further about it , I don't think I saw split screen on the iPhone unless I missed it , which I could have because duty called for about 15 minutes,
As for the AR,VR headset , I thought it was very cool , and I think apple will sell millions of those things , I want one myself.

So far so good. No crashes, seems pretty smooth,my XR running a little warm. Was expecting more in the control center and wallet but maybe they will upgrade them later.

Pretty decent stability wise, had no force close/ springboard or heat issues at all, just scratching service on my iPhone 14 pro and AW-ultra, The new offline maps and Apple Pay etc working fine,
So here in Aussie we only had the “SOS satellite” demo loaded into our settings not even 2 weeks ago, that is now saying not avail in this region, also 60GB system data and IOS-17 is using 12GB, those are the biggest issues I’ve had with this 1st beta, had zero neg impacts at all on the watch OS10 !
Dynamic island is essentially the same as it was on IOS16, prob find new features for the dynamic island in coming days but appears the same for me at this point ..

Since Aaron said it wasn’t going to have a lot of features I wasn’t let down. That Vision Pro is insanely great. Steve would be proud.

I’ve noticed that StandBy also works when the phone is plugged in via a cable and placed in landscape with a kickstand on a case. Pretty cool.

I’m actually excited about iOS 17. More so, the iPadOS having different lock screens and home screens for my focus mode I assume. I hope so. That’s something I wanted, but thought. That will never happen, but now its an unexpected wish I never thought would come true. So, I’m excited about the Posters too. The WatchOS I’ll just have to wait on. I assume if there’s an Apple Watch Ultra 2 this year and they don’t wait til the 10 year anniversary or something. I’m still in the market to buy a watch later this year. So, I’m hoping there’s just more features based on what the next Gen watch will do. But I was expecting or hoping for more than just widgets for the watch. And the whole redesigned Control Center is for the Mac it seems. That’s actually cool. I like that idea. Still no need for a MacBook no time so, but it does make me want to replace mine or when I replace mine, look forward to a whole new experience. Vision Pro? It’s okay. The feature that makes me think its worth it is the Disney+ experience. To watch Star Wars and be apart of it? DUDE! Are you kidding me! Or Marvel?! That’s nice. And if GTA ends up on the Vision Pro later down the line. I can see myself possibly getting one if it replaces my PS5. So yeah, iOS 17 I’m looking forward to it and a new watch. I’m not in the market to get the iPhone 15 Pro regardless. I’m on a 2 to 3 year cycle. I have the 14 Pro Max and I like it a lot.

I like the look of the standby mode with the red colour at night, but apart from that I am not impressed with iOS17. Just looks to me like lots of tiny little improvements over iOS16 that don't do enough to tear me away from Android.

Everything they announced today, across all platforms, sounds genuinely useful.

My favourite feature so far has to be cross fade in Apple Music. Waited so long for this.

Digging the new standby mode. Never understood why it wasn’t there a long time ago. Actually paid for an app that does exactly this. Wish they’d bring back animated lock screen backgrounds that they recently took away from us. Also, was really hoping for a revamped Siri using the power of AI so I have a reason to turn the assistant back on in my settings.

I am looking forward to iOS 17. I’m a little disappointed that the 8 plus & X are no longer supported.

hey aaron, a minor feature that you miss is that when you connect your airpods, the ui layout color is changed if you have dark mode. so if you have dark mode, the background when you connect your airpods is dark/black

I hope this means the development focus was on stability improvements. I used to be so bold in telling people that iPhones always do what I expect them to do, but that hasn’t been the case since ios15. Crashing, unresponsive screen, AirPod connection issues, freezing, sudden locks all happen frequently enough that it’s starting to bug me and is ruining what I like about iPhones. I hope iOS 17 finally rights this wrong.

Apparently Apple Reminders has a new Column View. I am looking forward to seeing this in action and how well it works in comparison to every other productivity app out there that has a kanban board feature.

Happy to hear that I don’t need to upgrade from my iPhone XR to get iOS 17. I want to see what Apple does with usb c to decide when I’m going to upgrade to a new phone

Honestly really happy with the new features, I can definitely see a lot of these being very useful for my use case.

I must admit I’m not a very BIG VR fan…. However I was blown away by the abilities of the all new VisionPro. In my my opinion, Apple has changed the way people are going to look at TV sets and Gaming consoles…. It is truly amazing.

I couldn’t watch your videos anymore 2 years ago I gave up my iPhone I had to go cheaper finally saved up my money and bought the iPhone SE 😊it makes me so happy that We get IOS17 !!! 😊. RCS Universal Profile support in messages and AI Siri are two obvious feature upgrades that are needed. Sad they missed out on the opportunity.

I downloaded the beta myself and did a benchmark test, the device withstood the stress and gave a really good result. Hard work

Apple has done well by bringing most of the user request features but although I didn't see split view but iOS 17 is great 👍

I really like the iOS 17, I downloaded it and use it, and looks very stable for a beta; when will come in fall it will be rock solid

Reminds me of the IOS 12 update from years back. IOS 17 seems it’ll be more of a stability update than something that’ll add a bunch of new features.

Actually, I was very impressed with this WWDC Keynote this year.
iOS/iPadOS 17 look to have features I lke and can use everyday!
I really like the new 15.3 inch MacBook Air
AND, although, very expensive, I was truly and genuinely impressed with Apple's new Vision Pro goggles!
It is no wonder the new Vision Pro goggles were many years in the making.
These are truly a very high tech and self contained piece of personal computing and entertainment device with lots of design, technologies and software involved to bring these to fruition.
I understand that, as a version 1 device, these are very expensive, I am still hoping, at sometime in the forseeable future, the costs of these will come down to more affordable price point levels.
The VisionPro goggles are a piece of pretty amazing technology, though!

I’m wondering what the Battery Drain will be , after updating to 17! I wish they would fix that aspect of these phones!

for the airdrop feature, you have to have the tops of the phones touching as thats the NFC reading area and that would probably make the most sense for the airdrop feature

Useful video Aaron! From what I've seen so far, it's a tie between being able to share things through airdrop and the new features in the phone, imessages and facetime apps.

The AR headset price is crazy but other than that I like it. The only justification I've really seen is that they have 4K displays for each lens.

While iOS17 does definitely seems an underwhelming upgrade to me, I hope it makes up with the overall stability and battery life!

Every year I wait for this. Even if there’s no ‘stand-out’ features this time. I enjoy any and (mostly) do too!

I'm liking it so far however i wish it had some more changes like split screen or a new control centre maybe next year .

I’m a little confused over some expected features, but I guess they’re leaving this for the next event where they announce the new iPhones later this year

watchOS 10 looks incredible, I like all the changes they made. It's going to make the Apple Watch feel fresh and new.

I’m tempted to install the developer beta of a iOS for the first time. All the new features for iPad are amazing.

I was wondering that they are going to re design applications and the control center and also locking apps and I love the the stand by mode but it’s bad to leave it on the charger I would love it if it can work with out charging this is will be incredible

I was expecting a bit more, but I do enjoy the nighttime lock face feature.

I feel like iOS 17 improved a lot of stability things... Tough I hoped they'd add cross-platform messaging for iMessage, though I guess I'll have to see what happens when the DMA applies here in the EU...

I really hoped to see more updates to the dynamic island and stuff like that

The voice mail dictation thing will continue to be hit and miss for me bc I generally don’t leave voice mails, and some people will continue to ignore my calls no matter what I’m calling about and they can just ignore the dictation anyway. Always the issue is going to be who you’re leaving a text voice mail to and what phone and OS they’re on, bc I doubt this’ll work with calling Android users and people on older OS’

Question that's probably gonna get asked alot - but how does the smoothness of the UI feel? From the video, it seems like it's pretty stable, no real glitchiness or stutters.

The best part about major iOS updates was that they’d bring in totally new experience besides knowing that they are going to slow older phones . With limited amount of features iOS 17 is offering there is neither excitement nor motivation to update

I hope this update fixes the battery drain issues on the 14 pro. Been getting 3-5 hours of screen time with a charge level between 20-80 percent

I think iOS 17 is great! May not have been the monumental update people we’re expecting, but I think more cool features will be added throughout the iOS 17 cycle.

For the first time iOS widgets make sense. Until now, they were just big icons. I really like that nightstand mode for iPhones! On android phones I would download an app to display clock and calendar when charging during the night. Now iPhones have it built in. But other than that, I don’t see much change. It’s like they’ve added several apps and that’s it. No major changes.

I like iOS 17 especially like the journal feature that is coming soon and thank you for making videos such as this 🙂

From all of your other video’s I was hoping for a little bit more from iOS 17 and thought we would see more hardware. However my favorite is the standby mode AND I am definitely saving my pennies for the Vision Pro when it finally arrives. If Apple was playing king of the mountain with other VR headsets Vision Pro will knock the other right off. I think it will be a huge game changer for Virtual Reality.

And I know you are very busy but I would like to ask you for a video (or tweet I don’t know) that indicates the feathers we will have in previous iPhones, I know my 13 pro max will be updated to iOS 17 but I know I would not be able to use all the features. I would really appreciate if you could clarify this information for us and again thank you for your work.

a bit disappointed with this new software, i expected more really especially for a redesigned control center and some new updated app logos but.. thanks for keeping us posted and keep up the good work

Definitely a smaller amount of features this year however some very cool little additions…

Thank you for the video. This update for iOS 17 has got to be the most boring update they can come up with.
It just feels like the same over and over with some small little thing sprinkled on. They could have come up with custom watch faces, custom icon themes, maybe a dock that has additional features, it feels like there’s no creativity at the company. I like my iPhone and it works great but I would love to see some bold things that move iOS and the iPad forward.

I wasn’t sure if I could get ios 17 developer beta without having to pay for it but I did. I like it so far. App theme changes I guess I’d like apple to make a change but I guess iOS 18 might change that. Reality headset looks cool but over $5000 Australian is a bit too much atm But would be worth it if I could get my wife to agree. Apple have really done a fine job as you have with your videos as always thanks Aaron

Pleasantly surprised by a few things (Phone? How are they going to change phone? Ohhhh - cool!), happy on a lot that I had already seen leaks for (I hate leaks - takes the fun out of it.) And a few things could have been mentioned better. (I thought - as did others - that interactive widgets were not coming to the iPhone, only the iPad. Because of the way they presented things.)
As for Vision Pro - HOLY CRAP!!! Take my money!!! (If I can get that much by launch date! LOL) Yes - it’s expensive - but look at what it will do!!! Wow!

Here are the things I found:
Some new Accessibility features:
Settings > Accessibility > Speech > Personal Voice
Settings > Accessibility > General > Assistive Access
Settings > Accessibility > Hearing > Hearing Control Centre (which you’ll then find in the “Hearing” icon in Control Centre (the Ear icon)
Additonally, in Screen Time, there’s the feature that detects when you’re too close to the iPhone / iPad, which I presume only works with devices that use Face ID as biometric login due to the necessary sensors not (yet) found in Touch ID iPhones / iPads
On iPad, the Multitasking Setting in Settings got a big redesign, having the option to switch between Split View / Slide Over, Stage Manager (for compatible devices) and newly “Off”.
All of them I found using iPhone 14 Pro Max and iPad Pro (12.9-inch) (5th Generation).

Could you tell us about the new improvements on the dynamic island, like message notifications, useful uses, etc. Thank you.

I saw somewhere they were gonna clean the appearances of app icons into more minimal and simpler ones. Or will it come in subsequent updates?

I don’t use half of the iOS features so iOS 17 looks good to me. I hope the standby mode works on the iPhone SE.

For users in Europe the most things that Apple implements don't work so good. We don't use Apple Messages bc we mostly use Whatsapp from Meta.
I think we have very little services that will support eg. sports results in live widgets and so on. All the things are useless to us. So concerning the lock screen widgets: There is only the multiple timers feature left that seems a little bit usefull to me here.
Also many features are only copies of Android or Samsung or Google functions as Live Journal (copy of Google timeline function), Share location and Chat search (copy of Whatsapp functions), Airdrop to close by iPhones (copy of the App Bump from about 10 years ago), Always On Display (copy of Samsung function), interactive widgets (copy from Android/Samsung function), ...... So, nothing new here.

i hope they add more features with the official release

For me iOS 17 was dissapointing for 2 reasons: No new Control Center and No new App Library Organiser. And I don't know if it will ever be a way to add more icons to a row on Home Screen or to disable app icon name on Home Screen

you actually can use standby mode without a dock too, phone just has to be stationary and horizontal when charging

It’s not a huge update and I’m fine with that. The new features are cool and useful. My hope is that the OS overall will be super stable by the time it ships.
