Even if I could afford this, I would still wait for the second gen model. The battery would probably see an improvement and there would be broader app support by then.
Agreed, early adopters will have to fund this for the time being
why even care about battery? it has a battery pack, just buy a bigger one or an expansion for it. if you are just gonna use it while sitting on a sofa and not moving around, buy a massive 40 thousand mah with a long enough cable and just leave it on a desk or on the floor. Or buy multiple batteries and switch when they run low.
Yeah, But the second gen won’t come out for years… they’re not going to update it after a year like an iPhone. Also, you can use it plugged in, so the battery isn’t as big of a problem. I mean I personally wouldn’t walk around with that thing on my head lol
My ppl over in China 🇨🇳 got a mod coming soon 10 hr
That’s basically the point of this, it’s essentially a productized developer kit. They aren’t expecting to sell millions, they just need devs to get their foot in the door so when the tech catches up and they can release a comparable non-pro version for ~1k it will have been ironed out with tons of app support.
All the leaked production numbers show they’re only trying to make something like 500k units and that development on the non-pro consumer version is already well underway.
Few years down, i can imagine this product coming in sunglasses.... Then spectacles... Then lenses and we'll be able to measure people's power levels and pick fights
😂😂😂
isn't that just google glass at that point?
@wertygo spiner it's a joke ref to "scouter" from Dragon Ball franchise.
It's over 9000 !!!!!!! 🤯🤯🤯
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The popularity of Vision Pro mostly relies on third party app development interest. There's a reason why not many games were ported to Mac OS, and that is the size of target consumers not being big enough for the development to be justifiable. It's still a new tech, and Apple should really focus on making a lower cost version in the coming years to trigger mass adoption.
well, this could be pretty useful for people that need to read an ultimate large amount of text like students. But since this people usually dont have that much money, this seems to be an other waste of money for the hippos...
I agree, but I do think that there’s two kind of “people” that will buy this = early adopters/Apple fans, and corporations willing to give mixed reality a go in their offices. Apple really sold its usability in the professional space; this isn’t an amateur’s tool, so it’s not priced like one.
If we think about other headsets, they’re aimed specifically at gaming and not much else. Honestly, it would be awesome to see Sony expand the usability of its own VR headset, with that said.
They should collab with Sony
Not really, apple can pull it off 50% of the way just like the iPad, right now the biggest interest of it is to expand screens across the MacBook in any place, there is no 3rd party need there.
Not really, most of the people want this to have multiple screens over their MacBook
Reminds me of the first apple watch when they even brought a gold apple watch. And they put all kinds of things between hardware and software and they slowly but surely positioned the product as a health and fitness device.
The gold watch was an irrelevant niche variant. These goggles are $3,500 for the main product. The best comparison here is the Lisa. Wait for the "Mac" headset instead.
@j1000a extremely well put
@j1000a NOT sure how good the device would be “macified”, meaning Apple Vision without the “Pro”. It all makes sense only with the components this good. This means that Apple will probably only sell Vision Pro in 2024, and then move the device to become Vision model in 2025, while introducing an upgraded device as Vision Pro.
The main positioning here is a giant high-resolution, HDR and wide gamut stereo/3D screen with truly surround sound. For now, however, if you have $3.6K to buy thing thing, you can already buy a real giant screen and a real surround audio system for $$5-10K. The only advantage of Vision is that it is 3D, but there is not a lot of video content for this. The big change might come when Vision will cost like $600, but by then giant TVs will also become cheaper.
It has the „pro“ in the name to justify the price. For years we’re now manipulated to associate pro with expensive but worth the extra charge
This looks amazing but also terrifying. One thing that I think is VERY important for future models is to be able to connect to other people's devices so that you really can see and share the same experiences. It would be cool if a friend could see exactly what you are seeing. I don't mean just like a screen copy thing but your headset projecting something into 3D space that appears in the exact space for them as it does for you. I'm not very good at explaining this how I imagine it, but my biggest fear with this is that it will isolate people even more. If they can design and upgrade it in a way that somehow promotes more human interaction then I think that will be a win.
Whether this is successful or not, this eventually is the future. It's important to address the social issues early on because if people get to used to it without these social features, they won't want/need them later
Without a doubt something much cheaper is on the horizon. The hefty price is probably coming from the fact that this is an “early adopters” product + the “Apple premium”
Can’t wait for this to advance so much that it’ll look like literal thin ski goggles and more aligned to something you can wear everyday and doesn’t look ridiculous in public. It’s definitely going to happen, just needs time.
ski goggles look ridiculous in public in any other situation than sking. Though you could mix it with the rest of your superhero outfit. And than go to the streets to save cats etc .
I could imagine Apple taking a similar approach to something like the NReal in the future
@Major Mononokelmfao I really want to save this comment to look back in 10 years when everyone is wearing ski goggles in public 😂
I think physical discomfort is a bigger factor than looks
@Major Mononoke people said that about airpods just saying
3rd party Developer access is huge and is mainly what a device like this rides on. Being as widespread as Apple is I can really see this taking off in the next few years. Just imagine organisations funding development of apps used for medicine, engineering, etc.. This could be huge not because the tech is anything new, but because of its ease of use and potential wide app variety.
Only thing right now though is that price tag, yikes 😬 nonetheless, many people will still buy it
Apple's Vision Pro headset looks sleek and packed with advanced technology. The blend of augmented reality and virtual reality is exciting, but the high price point may deter some potential buyers. It'll be interesting to see how it competes with the more affordable options in the market. Impressive innovation from Apple!
is there anyone who actually got to test out their "technology", cause I can't find a single test drive of this VR headset only the ads promising a lot of things that Apple hardware is too weak to handle
@wertygo spiner mkbhd did
This headset seems really exciting to acquire and explore. Feels like a whole world in a goggle. The price point is just the concern for a lot of anticipating i-lovers.
The vision pro 2 is gonna be insane.
Vision Air 2 is definitely going to be a hit.
You mean the Reality One? They trademarked both Reality Pro and Reality One.
@The Seeker no Vision Air 2 is 7 years after the One
@The Seeker And yet the OS was called VisionOS instead of xrOS & Vision Pro instead of Reality Pro. I think it was a headfake.
alright tell your mom to chill with the late night calls
I'd like to see a 3D spatial phone call where one can virtually pop out to the other end of the line. Imagine if they put a 360 camera on the gear set.
This, and its unveiling, have strong Apple Watch Series 0 vibes, a overly expensive peace of tech that will definitely be amazing a couple of generations in.
Also, as a former Genius Bar Technician I can't imagine how much AppleCare+ will cost for this headset
😵
Well this will certainly be interesting, looking forward to see just how well this actually works! Apple generally doesn't over promise though...
When tech like this becomes mainstream, I can only imagine the amount of live streaming that will be going on. I wonder if the cell companies will bring back data caps.
y'all don't have data caps?
@unlink i do
@unlink nope. At least here in Europe, Latvia we have an unlimited call/sms/data plan for 25-30 ish euros. If you tell your provider that you want to leave them for another provider, they will offer you a personalised discount. That's how I am now on everything unlimited for 13 euros a month 😅
@Kirill Parhomenko Same in Poland, I have all unlimited for the equivalent of auround 8 USD, with 5G that is actually good and covers the whole city
@unlink same here in the U.K. we don’t have data caps. I pay £20 for everything unlimited
My guess is this is really targeting the design industry. It doesn't seem overly useful for anything else without peripherals, and it's priced so heavily that it's unlikely that anyone outside of specific industries will see it as worthwhile.
Yep. Still too early for general public unless they can get rid of the battery pack and make it thinner.
100% agree. Unless I want to play a really immersive, well-designed game or watch a 3D movie I don't need a headset at all. I don't even use FaceTime Video cause I find it too intrusive at times. Curious where this is going tho.
I believe the main purpose of releasing these goggles is to further facilitate to their image… which is really what people buy into at the end of the day, even if they aren’t buying these goggles specifically. The simplistic, stylish, borderline designer ‘sphere’ of products has evidently made a lot of heads turn since the iPhone. A great example is the addition of the Apple Watch, or AirPods Max. The ideas aren’t new, or timeless. The functionality isn’t a necessity in any scenario, but the rounded corners (both metaphorically and physically), the concepts, the class, is what we are buying into repeatedly. Similar to how an artist will create a unique atmosphere in an album for people to be enthralled by, and pulled into using a variation of covers and sounds, Apple has created a unique lineup of products, all adhering to an image, for us *to believe*
@James Pendergrass I watched the event and my mind was blown away at how many unique and revolutionary features the vision pro offers. And i have a Vive and a Quest 2 and from someone having used both of those for many years i will have to say that Vision Pro is leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else after watching the event. And it's sad that people think it's overpriced, i thought its going to be $4,999. Lastly the Vision Pro is at the same price as the Holo Lens $3500. And Holo Lens just pissed its pants.
This comment reminds me the reaction of the blackberry users when the first iPhone had been released
I feel this could indirectly be a saving grace for Meta, given that Apple's offering has suddenly made the Quest Pro and its successors sound like a bargain.
The hardware is not super great without the software and the ecosystem. I can see why this could work and why the Meta hardware didn't.
@unlink the meta hardware did work! The Quest 2 is the best selling headset of all time. They are not in the same market.
@Dennis Brännvall’s #1 FanThat’s a very low bar to cross lol. Best selling headset ? There is no market yet. And META is losing $4 Billion per quarter on REALIT LABS and has absolutely no path to profitability yet. They sell every quest for a huge loss
@Well Best Selling headset while surpassing Xbox sales. Try again.
@ilikestuff Had the og oculus dev kit, htc vive, and the $300 quest 2, the quest 2 is very impressive for its cost and immersion in games is pretty unbeatable for the cost.. Its a standalone device and im assuming many people will buy it during the wait for release. I use a 360hz monitor normally so thats my standard.. and the quest 2 is my only vr headset i got rn, all i needed and is very impressive for the cost, fr.
I'll need to see people using it to get a feel of the experience but at this point, and that price, it'll be hard sell, ironically because of Apple.
The experience of using this needs to be amazing and useful enough that someone would forgo buying a MacBook Air, iPhone and Airpods Max for one of these. So far, I'm not convinced. Looks cool tho.
The price is absolutely outrageous
This kind of technology has never been produced in the history of the world ever.
@Kevin:)yes they have ar and vr isnt anything new, have you been living under a rock ?
The fact that they announced "screen distance" prior to this was also a nice touch 😂
I get why people think that’s kinda funny/ironic, but it’s really about eye strain when focusing on a screen too close. VR lenses make it so you’re not focusing on something up close. That’s why us nearsighted people still need prescription lenses to see anything with the headset on.
I am curious to know what eye doctors think of this headset for multi-hour sessions.
🤣🤣
Thought the same 🤣
@Eastman Webb good thing the battery only lasts 2 hours.
For anyone fallowing VR gaming (PS VR 2, Quest 2) and the technology development this is a mighty tech demo. At that point is hey WWDC this is what we thing AR/VR could look like. If you want our first AR/VR Dev kit you can have it for 3499$. This device is super slick and nice but after all is a AR/VR dev kit. The price considering the tech in it is reasonable but it's not a mainstream device. Still a lovely tech demo.
@jacksmith6015u do realize he mentioned PlayStation vr in the comment right?
i like this pretty well, like the comedic side is 'just strap the damn phone to their face' but i actually like the AR tech and i hope that there will be headset interfacing so you can watch the same movie or have the same AR board game or whatever else
Board game? 😂
I’ll buy the Vision SE for $999
I honestly doubt they will make it. At that point you can just get the oculus
@Matic Oculus is mostly focused on games right now and apple has the ecosystem. For content consumption this seems much more enjoyable when it comes to resolution and who knows what we'll have by then. Also they call themselves meta now
@Matic that’s what apple always does. Maybe after 2years to encourage more people buying it…more users more developers will develop for it
@matic8255 they will, probably not exactly an "SE" but they are planning on releasing more "affordable" variants after the release of the Vision Pro, hence the "PRO" on the end of its name.
@Matic But Oculus is not apple , you dont get the software and capability
Even If I could afford to buy this. I would recommend waiting for the second or third generation model, there would be more options to choose for a lower price, the battery life would definitely improve, and there would be broader app support by this time.
Microsoft and Nvidia should team up to flesh out a consumer grade hololens
They will definitely come up with a cheaper copy of this but might jut be MS poweredby nvidia
I mean, they have a more mature api, nvidia have the tegra gpu being really good and microsoft have the Qualcomm 8xc gen 4 coming next year (though that is more comparable with an M1 than an M2).
Either way is difficult... that said, apple solution is overprice, way more than other times XD.
This is basically what Windows Mixed Reality is (and to an extent, OpenXR).
The libraries are in place, the hardware just needs to catch up.
Nvidia's lower-power offerings are lackluster. AMD maybe.
@Sora Granda and nividea and microsoft will have a hot VR headset like real heat on your head😢
This is cool tech, and it's nice to more companies coming into the VR/AR market, but boy oh boy this thing is expensive as hell. I get it's an early adopter product, but even then it's steep.
It's apple 🍎 always expensive
It’s not for broke boyssss. Let’s be honest what application does this have for most humans. This is definitely for well of people and businesses.
Compared to other high quality XR headsets out there it’s cheaper & is reasonably priced considering the tech it has. I has better tech & better lenses than the Varjio 2 headset which is a more expensive headset than the vision pro.
Just wanted to say for the record, this thing’s displays are a total of 23 megapixels.
The HTC Vive Pro 2, the highest resolution VR headset for home use, only has about 12.
It’ll be the highest resolution VR headset to date. Even more that the current highest headset, the Varjo VR-3 with about 16 megapixels.
This is most likely one of the main reasons why this thing is so expensive.
In VR, resolution is one of the single biggest factors in the quality of the experience.
What's the comparison in pixel density? I think that's ultimately more important to how good things look
@Ashr. The screen is right up in front of your eye, and the highest resolution on the market. The pixel density is phenomenal, but no one in the public has tried it to know whether it will have any noticeable pixel separation or not. My guess is it will be absolutely miniscule, almost unnoticeable.
Edit: I should say I've done a ton of VR development, usually around 1440p per eye. This produces a decent amount of "screen door effect" but you pretty quickly get used to it. That's about 4.6 megapixels. This is 23.
How did you calculate that? Most specs are reporting the vive pro 2 to have 6 megapixels not 12.
Edit: oh in total. Ok 12mp, but realistically each eye sees only 6. And that would put the Vision pro at about 11mp.
@Erioch Stomp Exactly.
I wouldn't say visual is the highest priority bad frame we get people throwing up, will 6d actually tracks the mind in thinking things are real.
The only disappointment for me is that it's only coming out next year. And they said only US, so for me in Germany it might only come out at the end of next year. I was hoping that it ships before christmas. Well, at least I got more time to save up for it then 😂
Even if I could afford this, I would still wait for the second gen model. The battery would probably see an improvement and there would be broader app support by then. 100%!
One thing I’m hoping to see with this is that it will be compatible with the AirPods Max so we could get as authentic of a theater experience at home as we can, I think it’d be neat!
Thats almost a nobrainer dude
While I will admit there is sticker shock, I think when you look at other VR/AR headsets it is a fair price. For the uninitiated in VR, this Vision Pro is touting 23 million pixels with micro oled which will help immensely with picture clarity. For reference:
Meta Quest 3 ($500) = 9.1 million LCD
Valve Index ($1000) = 4.6 million LCD
Pimax Vision 8K X ($1300) = 16.5 million LCD
Varjo Aero ($2000) = 15.6 million mini LED
And only the first option has software to run on it's own like the Vision Pro.
I can remember a time paying over $3000 for a top-of-the-line Mac Pro desktop and that was a 1990s dollars.
Now you can pay $3000 to awkwardly point at iPad apps while your family tries to figure out what you're doing!
@Dial 2 😆
$1 dollar back then is worth $2.32 today. So this would have costed $1293.10 in 1990. It's called inflation.
@Name Same more like 3000 x 2.32
I could see me buying that, but it's very expensive and I'm not in the U.S. May have dodged a bullet here. :D
Yet I'm surprised that it was not announced with the M3 if it's not released this year, presuming that the M3 will be more battery-efficient.
I really want to see competitors make something better and cheaper
I also love the screen thing for movies and gaming so you wouldn’t have to pay for big high quality screens and monitors
Get a Quest 3
@Josh Anderson noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
There's a huge amount of serious technology here. I don't think I will be an early adopter, but it's not because of the price. Just imagine how much you would pay for a big screen OLED TV and realize that this is that plus a heck of a lot more. I will wait for second or third generation. I am an anesthesiologist - the possibility of using this as a heads-up monitoring display in the OR or other medical applications - is very intriguing. This will be a huuuuuge product.
Bro acts as if VR never existed before Apple announced it.
@JannisDZ vr were Nokia 3310 this is a smartphone
@JannisDZ Well 2x 5k resolution oled display is certainly few tiers above any other vr on market
But with a big OLED TV you can actually watch it you know.. together with other people? I guess you can justify the price of the headset if you live by yourself and never have friends or family over.
@Josh Anderson True. I think VR is somewhat isolating, despite the "virtual connection" bit they're trying to sell.
Although I'm not planning on getting it, I think this is great for the competition and the technology itself.
I would already prefer to get this over a really expensive monitor.
First think what it will do to your head and brain. I don't think it will be healthy to spend so many hours using any VR goggles as you spend working/playing using external monitor.
If you don't why expensive monitors are expensive, and what they can do, you're not the target audience of expensive monitors
I'll keep my 49" Odyssey G9.
Wearing a monitor on your face all day is not what you think it is.
@Kamil Even with displays that have half the fidelity of passthrough it's rarely an issue (varjo 3 is a good example, it's already at the point where its passthrough looks almost identical to reality, and Vision Pro is supposed to be even better), and if the IPD is automatic and the focal length is adjustable then all it should need is good software to keep things running smoothly. Even if this doesn't convince you, then it's not like it should matter since the battery only lasts 2 hours anyways, you basically HAVE to take breaks to charge it so no time for long-term brain-fuckery.
micro oled which will help immensely with picture clarity. For reference: Meta Quest 3 ($500) = 9.1 million LCD Valve Index ($1000) = 4.6 million LCD Pimax Vision 8K X ($1300)
Will definitely buy this but I can’t imagine it will become more mainstream until they bring it down to $2500 - about what you’d spend on a high end computer and home entertainment system. Would like to see 8+ hour battery life so I could do a full day of work with it.
$2500 is still too much for what it is.
@Doctor Nemmo nope... if it was 1000€ nobody would buy any of their other products any more that "compete" with it (displays, macbooks, ipads...) ... they probably thought this through for years tho
I think it looks pretty fun. I wish they would give one to me for free
Assuming it is a good product that finds use in day-to-day activities, it might become another device that distracts us from our real lives and keeps us distracted. Similar to what smartphones have done already.
nope, I'm developing an ADHD app for it right now reminding you of all the real life tasks 😀 you'll be a better human after that! watching a movie while doing important tasks 🥸
Future enhancements would be how to put the battery somewhere where you dont need a huge wire on your side, maybe make it thinner and smaller so people can see your face more and the obvious that is longer battery life, cheaper price
To me, this is the first Apple product that I don't see my self "needing".
It started with the iPad, but they found ways to make it useful enough to be worth it. The same goes for the Watch and it's health features.
IDK this just doesn't feel real, like a real Apple product normally does.
I love that they continue to bet on virtual and mixed reality. There is still a long way to go before it is a mass product, but we must continue to improve it.
I love the external battery! Apple can upgrade it with more usable hours hopefully without buying a while new headset! Could be great for longevity
no way they dont release a new one in 2026. Tech improves a ton in 2 years
lol, I'm willing to bet that if you can use larger batteries, they will need to be "apple certified" meaning any portable batteries people already own would be useless (not to mention the premium that will be added). Like what they're doing with USB-C cables.
@schmiggy --- I bet you Anker does a version. They'll just license the magsafe connector which looks a little smaller than the phone version.
I'm sure in the future apple will permanently seal in the battery so the forced obsolescence can take place like they always do
Not to mention you could buy a second battery and charge the first one while you use the second one. It would be great if they also added an adapter that let you charge your iphone and other apple devices with the external battery, making it multipurpose.
Strapping a screen to your head, is not just wearing some tech like a watch. It is a change in how a human operates. I am spending may be 10 hours each day with my laptop. Doing the same with a computer strapped to your head is something different. I think this is why they made the Vision Pro so expensive knowing that it still is a sort of experiment.
they know my screentime ... using my iPhone like 10h/day 😭
Alex seems genuinely interested in tech i like that
I am gonna wait 4-5 years to see it more like a normal glass.
More like 10 years
@Gala xy more like 15 years
@Deva Narayan S more like 20 years
i don’t think it’s a fair comparison with meta. meta is a whole different world, and arguably unsecured and invasive as hell. apple has carved their own market out here, in particular with the augmented reality set up(there literally is no parallel currently) and it’s interesting to see how it pans out. i think it’ll be easy to find people finding value in the security that apple provides, after all, it’s innately a prett invasive piece of tech, but with the assurance that it’s all on device processing , it’s got an easy leg up on meta, which is still likely pricing their products bellow the premium of production simply for user data
Google Glass was a product often avoided by consumers for one reason or another. Maybe it was the steep $1,500 asking price? There are two major reasons why the product failed from the consumer perspective, and the first was the design. At the time, Glass looked rather clunky. While a newer version did improve the design, it wasn't enough to make a huge difference in sales. The second reason is the concerns consumers had about the product possibly collecting data from users or being vulnerable to hacking from outsiders.
that's equivalent to $1950 today. and apple wants twice as much, after taxes.
And no no no there's nothing invasive to one's privacy about having your face 3d scanned by a huge multinational corporation with foundations in china.
If this wasn't so expensive I'd definitely get it. I always thought VR or AR was kind of cool but useless, but Apple actually made it seem useful.
For what?
Just wait till 2025 I bet they will develop a more budget model
@F L R S H Yeah I think they'll do that too: 3:55
Useful how?
Its almost $3500
First VR thing I've found even remotely interesting. Roll on future generations
I can’t wait to buy this day one. This is a great price for an 8k display, LiDAR tracking, and 12 cameras. Usually runs about 10k for this equipment. Apple has eliminated the competition today.
🐑
You are trying to justify the price of this so hard, you don't even know the fov yet, or the pixel density.
This looks stunning
the headset doesn't scan your face when you put it on, you go through a setup in which the front cameras and sensors on the headset develop a map of the face before you put the Vision pro. this was all said in the presentation.
it does scan your iris tho
@MICROLABS I agree, but that doesn't contribute to the 3d model of your face used in facetime and other video calls
@Lorenzo Soleri do you think I can scan myself in a evil clownsmask and have that being displayed on the outside? 😀
living in the tropics, I cannot imagine putting anything like that on my head. having any insect crawling onto me without being able to look what it is immediately or wiping it away without accidentally clearing my virtual desktop is the stuff of nightmares.
Most pro tech is designed for the global north, indeed 😞
This does look awesome. But it's a bit to expensive. I'd pay about $2500 I think
2k at most
$500
1.5k
This is going to sell. This is mindblowing. They actually pulled it off.
The initial versions of these will all be way too expensive for most consumers, of course, but this is where the entire market is going now. VR is largely DOA but AR clearly has a very bright future ahead of it. Why pay for a 65" traditional TV when you can just get a AR headset that will let you have multiple 120" screens inside of the headset that you can take with you wherever you go. This is going to be the future of both computing and movie/TV watching. Expect to see the big TV makers get into this market here soon in a very big way. Sony is already there in their Playstation lineup so they will likely be first to market in the TV space. All of the others will soon follow though, you can bet on that.
One thing similar to that, just to work as a giant monitor or TV, would be great
$2499 w/ at least a 5 hour battery life would go much farther toward my wallet but still interesting. I think this needs at least 9 hours of battery life for mass market appeal.
You can still use it wired, which is what most people will do for work.
I'm interested... In trying it out for 14 days and an additional 14 days after I start my return 😉
Also, next year the M3 will appear, and the M2 will not be justified for that price (since it cost like $650 alone of the SoC, the price is still too much).
Sadly don't think the benefits of M3 will fix this since they will keep the same node and just include last year A chip advancements that aren't even full spec of cortex v9 (which btw, apple have their own solutions, some even somewhat better but still, it needs full specs, this is an issue for a while now :/).
@Mani You can buy a macbook air with m2 and various monitors for that price so, not really a good investment for work, also, not been able to move that is a real issue for a $3500 device...
The software is potentially the best on the market but at that pricetag... good luck.
If you're an Apple fan with a limited budget, you should not be buying this at all. If you have a maximum unlimited budget and are very well off financially, sure, go ahead and buy it. You'll make it cheap for all of us in the future even if we don't go with Apple. But if you're an Apple fan with a limited budget, wait until this is on its third gen. The thing has only 2h of battery life 3rd gen is going to have 8 hours of battery life it will be way way better in three generations. 1st gen products always are not that great. Second gen is just a slight improvement. Most of the time the third generation is where they revamp it a tad and the battery life is solid
I’m so glad it’s priced at $3499 because if it was $3500 I definitely couldn’t afford it
I think this is the best looking "VR headset" so far (if it didn't have that front facing display)
it has no controllers, so anything gaming related is out of the question, despite using an external battery it only lasts 2 hours, after trying to see the specs I was only met with vague remarks about how it is "4k" which means nothing in context, 4k per eye? The display in total is 4k? And what about the pixel density which matters more? also no mention of fov which is arguably the most important factor in the headset.
Seems extremely overpriced like most apple products. You could find better VR headsets at half the price, take the big screen beyond for example, incredibly high resolution, with the best form factor in the entire market, probably less than half the size of the vision pro, using a custom 3d scanned face pad, still only 1000$.
This headset can literally do nothing to justify the price difference it has with the rest of the MR market. Nevertheless uninformed apple fanboys will still buy it.
that's the best part of it! The first thing I'll be doing: DJ Liveset with that on displaying cool visuals on them
Apple VR games gonna be REVOLUTIONARY
Did anyone happen to mention if it's easy to clean the bits that sit on your face? Probably the most under reported aspect of every headset is how to clean it when it becomes a sweaty mess
they said its removable and made from some kind of fabric so I guess you could wash it?
Tomorrow is the first demos for people. I expect your first impressions of the product in use tomorrow ASAP!
This is too expensive for me right now, but I definitely am interested in something like this for the future
@C C This is exactly what they said about the original iPhone. But Apple is applying all the lessons learned for this project. They have a 10 year plan for their "Vision" guaranteed.
They always say never buy a 1st generation but I'm so tempted looks amazing
It is really all about how well apps integrate with this, i think. Also it was mentioned that it can be paird with a Mac, but there werent any details on this. To me that is the most exciting feature about it tho, connecting it to a high power workstation and replacing 3 screens. And it will be interesting to see how well people do when wearing this for a workday.
@Gerson Gaete Thats why this is a day 1 launch by for me. There won't be a new one for at least 2-3 years or when there M chip product cycle comes back around. They'll wait until component's are miniaturized even further to make the gen 2 even smaller. I think the ultimate vision is just the glass screen with a light strap Ready Player One style.
@unbornG4 yeah, also m processors don't really change that much per year. M2 is only 30% faster than m1 was, and it's not worth it to upgrade a $3500 device every year, for just a 30% improvement in performance, and I'm sure it's powerful enough for most apps, if you need more, just connect it to a Mac, or stream and control your high end windows computer.
I think lenses are the only major improvement they can realistically provide in 2/3 years, but right now the ones they are using (pancake lenses) are quite new and there's nothing soon replacing it.
Worth to wait for more competitors.
Well lets say the Vision Pro does get the 3rd party app support it needs to success... feel that the bottleneck of this headset's growth is the fact that it's locked in the apple ecosystem. Who's to say a use-case that the headset's average consumer is a feature Apple wouldn't be able to provide because it would break the proprietary nature of the Apple ecosystem?
I mean a simply solution would be to expand the bounds of the ecosystem but we've seen historically that Apple has been incredibly resistant to that.
That would be economical suice, apple earns its money with hardware not software
@KID COMA Precisely and this is supposed to be a pro device but Apple's software experiences (aside from macs) don't align with that
For the amount of technology in this device, I must say that it does not look weird at all and I am not rich by any means but I am going to buy it.
Ground breaking price! :)
Although it’s a little costly, I’m going to invest in it I am very impressed
😅 $3500 isn't Little costly during event I was expecting $1000 to $1500
Cant wait for google and Samsung's $1500 version next year. Theyve all been working on them in the background for years, hopefully theyre close to release
Well,, but it is difficult to bring something like this.. When you have to avoid 5000 patents...
Meta’s version comes out this year for $499. Same mixed reality features. Apple isn’t innovating anything here.
@Empire Toy Shop It is innovating display, for the first time resolution might be good enough to watch 4k movies on it and with oled hdr will be decent
@Empire Toy Shop yeah... but Apple user's are "caught" in a high class ecosystem. No Quest will ever get to that level anytime soon at that price point. That is the most premium AR/VR the world has seen so far.
@wadimek11 in 3d... (you can't even buy 3d TVs right now)
"It has all these really fancy, uh, materials behind it, and technology." It's a rare treat to see the reality distortion field working on a person in real-time.
I think unlike any other devices, vr/ar headsets are the most difficult to grasp an idea what it truly is like using them.
I was not sure if I would like trying Oculus Quest 2 when I bought one (it was my first vr headset). It had limited hardware and software experience, and honestly felt like an interesting toy at best. But at the end it allowed me to see the glimpse of what will truly be possible in the future.
When I see comment sections, there are so many people, who I assume they have never tried VR headsets, being skeptical as to why bothering to wear chunky headset on your face just to look things a little bigger.
I don't think simply watching things on a bigger screen can define VR/MR experience. The feeling of looking at things 1:1 size is just something different. To be really immersed in a different worlds, even with the limited capability of Quest 2, made me very enthusiased about what'll come next. It's something you'll never understand until you actually try it yourself.
Every new techology receives skepticism by people who only think about negatives it brings as it is hard to fathom the positives until it is actually there.
iPhones, iPads, Airpods received a lot of doubts and snarks when they came out.
"Airpods look ridiculous. No one will want to wear it in public"
"My blackberry can do everything iPhone does"
"Why should I waste money on a tablet just to look things bigger than iPhone?"
Those were honestly all fair criticisms but they were quickly drowned out because the positives those devices brought, the level of immersion and convinience they brought to people's lives, outweigh the negatives.
I believe that is true with Apple Vision Pro.
At it's first iteration, the headset is chunky, looks ridiculous, has external battery you have to carry around, seemingly uninspiring user interface, and is really expensive.
But the positives, the experience of using an augmented reality headset, will change how we think, and how we live our lives, whether that is a change you'd personally welcome or not.
New hardware aspires people to come up with new ideas. We lack the ability to imagine when there is no foundation because there is nothing to base our ideas off of.
We'll have things we had no idea was possible, and didn't even know we wanted, but it will be there and we will live in it.
Absolutely correct
You are glorifying it, it has no controllers, so anything gaming related is out of the question, despite using an external battery it only lasts 2 hours, also no mention of fov which is arguably the most important factor in the headset.
Seems extremely overpriced like most apple products. I'll consider it when they release V3 that costs 1K or less.
I don't see this or any variation going below 1k in the next 5 years at least
Keep dreaming
They wont make all this massive effort value less than 2k, it’s another level
The first iPhone was 600$, the cheapest iPhone SE is 430$. Their target is above average, so even if they'll make a cheaper version, I don't see it possible below 2k$. But there will be cheaper competitors, for sure.
Well, we all know what those smash and grabbers are gonna shoot for next year when they run into the stores, well everything Apple is pretty nice nvm. Looks cool. Definitely out of my price range though.
I mean, they'll certainly sell 10's of them for sure.
nope
If a virtual screen is projected above a glass tabletop in Augmented Reality (AR) mode, will it be possible to see a reflection of this screen on the surface of the table?
Simple rule of thumb, on a completely new tech, skip V1, get V2. It will almost always be 2-3x magnitude difference. Think iPhone & iPad version 1 vs the next. There is merit for being early adapter, but beyond that novelty, V2, for what it can really do.
VR is not exactly completely new tech right now. So my bet is the next generation wont be a big leap in terms of tech but it will get affordable down the road.
On an interesting note, Iphone v1 sealed is valued above 50k
@Agustin Tettamanti absolutely. That’s the novelty. Imagine buying it now and holding it seal packed for 10 years. Sure.
Given the relatively tepid (compared to iPhone) response or watch I’m guessing this won’t supplant laptops or iPhones for a while at least.
Honestly I was expecting this to be much more. While $3500 isn’t cheap it isn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be
Your out of touch with reality and the average consumer.
@ChuyIsTheShiz I never said I would buy this thing. I was honestly expecting $5000 coming from Apple. I never once said I thought this was a great price just not as bad as I was expecting (but still a not so desirable price)
@Blue Eyed Tech I guess I'm saying this because your a tech UAclipsr channel. But I see your point.
At this price it is competing with extremely high end and even the enterprise market, VR companies that are being used by the us government for military training. I heavily doubt apple can compete with them.
Its genuinely impressive
So by Spring 2024 Anker will have a battery bank vest. I'll also await the AppleTV LIVE event or game subscriptions.
An "Apple certified" vest that will cost $2,500 in addition to the headset.
It could double as body armor lol. Time to get one for every student in America!
@Brent Webb Better yet, give them to Ukraine
@Brent Webb with haptic vibrations. Oh man.
@Yo RAHeem great idea.
I'll wager the cheaper version (aka: Apple Vision, not Pro) will ditch the speakers and potentially the hand gesture tracking. That way, you can use your existing AirPods and Apple Pencil 2 to replace those functions, while bringing the overall cost down.
By that point, early adopters/tech channels will have been (hopefully) blown away by the Pro and have shown a whole bunch of use cases/got rid of bugs.
Removal of Hand Gesture recognition would be purely artificial, as it most likely hust uses an ai to detect your gestures from camera feed. On the other hand it is just plain useless, apart from maybe watching movies, everything is much more convenient to do on a real screen/tv/computer/iphone.
apple again being many years behind the competition. also, this is going to be the next metaverse
The value with headsets today is in the gaming space. Apple is far behind when it comes to gaming. If this could integrate with steam, which Apple would never do, then I could see this being more of a buy. But at $3500 I'd rather just buy an awesome OLED tv with surround sound and a solid laptop.
Not meant for gaming. This is AR, which is more for enhancing life and not escaping it.
Apple makes more profit from games sold on the app store than Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo. By a lot.
@boyHowdy113 Mobile gaming is for casuals. Casuals don't drop $$$ on hardware.
The battery should also be a breakout box with HDMI-in. How many console gamers would like a 100+inch screen. It's a fine time to be open while Apple develops their gaming ecosystem!
curious if a third party company creates a battery backpack that you wear to massively increase battery life
The problem with VR is that it's always oversold and always under delivers, will the experience really be like the "glossy promo" or will it be ok-ish..
The other issue is that VR is great for short periods, in the same way a fairground ride is great for 15 minutes, but would you want to spend hours wearing this, probably not..
There are already people who spend many hours in VR with less sophisticated headsets. The passthrough and comfort on this one will probably make that more palatable for more people.
❤Apple always knows how to make a good quality product ~ 🤩 spark on ~ one a travel time or a resting place or a study time ~ 😂😂
The battery, rather than the price, is the real Achilles heel of this device. Two hours of battery life are simply not enough. Obviously, it is not Apple's fault. Battery technology remains the Achilles heel of many products today.
Try wearing a VR headset for more than 2 hours.
@oisiaa well Apple obviously wants you to wear it all the time lmao
If the battery is external, there's really no excuse for Apple not offering larger sizes. If the device consumes too much power, that's entirely Apple's fault.
One of the experiences that come with this headset is the ability to experience poverty .. upgraded from Virtual Reality .. to Reality.
For a moment there I thought it was going to be expensive 😂
😂
Great I'll finally get to do some Virtual Boy emulation.
Exciting times .. AI, AR, VR
scary times...but the future nevertheless.
@wavnino future is now
This going to break many barriers, including insane prices for VR. Just like they did phones.
It's a computer, tv, phone and much more all in one. It will eventually replace all of them. Makes sense for the price to be higher for a single device but much less than all those devices combined.
Insane price
@F won’t be able to replace a desktop if they are holding it back software-wise like they’re doing it with the iPad rn
Surprised the did the battery on the outside; not very Apple-like. But probably the best way to do it, especially if it only gets 2 hours even with an external battery.
I can see apple selling a bigger battery for people that want more battery life
From this video, I get the impression this isn't like the Quest at all. The Quest is an accessory to a computer which has its own pros and cons. It seems with Apple Vision, it's the total device, given it has an M2 processor in it and its own OS.
So while you can use it with an Apple laptop or iPhone etc you don't need to. You could buy this and have it be your only device which is really a different kind of computing device and also explains the price difference.
You don't know anything about the quest....
looking forward Apple Vision SE !!
