The feature film introduces a legendary family of explorers, the Clades, as they attempt to navigate an uncharted, treacherous land alongside a motley crew that includes a mischievous blob, a three-legged dog and a slew of ravenous creatures. “Inspired by classic adventure stories," said director Don Hall, “‘Strange World’ is an original animated adventure/comedy about three generations of the Clade family who overcome their differences while exploring a strange, wondrous and oftentimes hostile world.”
The voice cast includes Jake Gyllenhaal as Searcher Clade, a family man who finds himself out of his element on an unpredictable mission; Dennis Quaid as Searcher’s larger-than-life explorer father, Jaeger; Jaboukie Young-White as Searcher’s 16-year-old son, Ethan, who longs for adventure; Gabrielle Union as Meridian Clade, an accomplished pilot and Searcher’s partner in all things; and Lucy Liu as Callisto Mal, Avalonia’s fearless leader who spearheads the exploration into the strange world. “Strange World” is helmed by Don Hall (Oscar®-winning “Big Hero 6,” “Raya and the Last Dragon”) and co-director/writer Qui Nguyen (co-writer “Raya and the Last Dragon”), and produced by Roy Conli (Oscar®-winning “Big Hero 6,” “Tangled”).

I can see where people are drawing the Treasure Planet comparisons, I'm definitely getting those vibes as it's a big sci-fi adventure and there's probably a lot of lore in the setting.

I watched the movie and can guarantee that this doesn't reveal the plot.
People keep saying this reveals the important plot points meanwhile I don't see any major plot reveals. It's quite obvious that the dad is in most of the movie and isn't meant to be a surprise reveal.
You were going into this G-rated animated family film with the sincere expectation of being intellectually surprised by the plot points of a generational story that begins with a missing father figure?

All this movie makes me wanna do is watch Treasure Planet. You know Disney, it'd be nice if you did some cartoon animations once in a while. Dreamworks and Pixar styled movies are great I love them the 3D animations, but Disney I feel like honestly ur way more well known for cartoon styled animation. Seriously I feel like this movie would've been so much better had it been cartoon drawn animation because it would've looked more appealing overall!

Disney made a pretty forgettable and boring movie: "the princess and the frog" as their last 2D animated movie, and because it was forgettable and boring it didn't do well, but Disney took that as an excuse that 2D films are out and 3D films are in. When in reality it's most likely because 3D animation is cheaper to make.
I also want to see a resurgence in 2D animation... Outside of Japan. Western 2D animation is either comedy for kids or comedy for adults but we almost never get anything serious.
@Kaneda It also didn't help that Disney did not market TPATF very well. If it's not marketed well, how are people going to be hyped to see it? Disney seems to be struggling lately with making appealing trailers. A lot of people didn't even know about Strange World's existence until they stumbled upon the trailer for it on freaking TikTok! 🤦🏾♀️
Cartoon animation is more expensive than 3D animation but a big company like Disney should be able to afford it
Its midnight and i just finished watching it and although the trailer is not well executed (lets be real), I really liked it. I might give it another watch in the morning just to know if i'm just tripping but as of right now, its pretty good. There's bit of the plot that may need some more in depth explanation though but otherwise, really loved the visuals and concept in this movie. Likable characters, smooth animation ugh! It has potential. I just wish it has been advertised more by Disney.
I watched the movie and liked it, too. Except for the characters representing random minorities. A dog with three legs? Why? Besides that, the movie was fine.

I really like how they have some voice lines visibly not syncing up with the character animations in the trailer. It's the next step in the evolution of ADR. Once they just inserted the voice clip when the character wasn't on-screen, now they don't even care anymore.

Watched Disney's STRANGE WORLD. I enjoyed the story very much. If I could describe it, I'd say it's like "Journey to the Center of the Earth" meets James Cameron's "Avatar" meets Disney's "A Goofy Movie," though not as silly. 🤣

@Gost what will be strange about this though is the ratio. Yes movie trailers get more views than the movie but when there's a phenomenal gap to the point the movie doesn't make back it's profits then the trailer showed that the movie has nothing of value to go see.

@Ricky Tavilla Dude I wish I got paid. Idk, I just went in with 0 expectations & no prior knowledge via trailers, and I was pleasantly surprised by the twists of the story. Similar to Onward (?), also saw 0 trailers of that and decided to give it a go.

At 0:14, that gives me serious Tarzan vibes (also Coco because Hector's face from the family photo was ripped off). Also at 1:37, that fellow there definitely reminds me of Morph from Treasure Planet. I love some of these callbacks to previous Disney films (I know Coco is Pixar, but still wanted to note that similarly I saw with the compass photo).
Can't wait to see another sci-fi adventure from Disney! I look forward to seeing how this world works and what this adventure is like! Also excited to know that Jake Gyllenhaal is now in a WDAS film! 😁

I absolutely love the animation art style here! It looks visually beautiful. The characters movements feels straight out of a 2D animated feature film. That’s really impressive. And i love Sci-Fi stories so that’s a plus. Well done, Walt Disney Animation Studios. Can’t wait to see this movie 🍿

Look, honestly? I loved it. It‘s about finding your passion and dealing with environmental changes and while the cast may be diverse, they are depicted that way without it influencing the plot. I mean, the bonding scene between the son and the grandfather is like: „Well, hello grandson, nice to meet you. Oh, there‘s someone you like? Fighting monsters is a good strategy to impress them“ „Ah, grandpa, I don‘t want to fight monsters, so no thank you. Want to play cards?“
If you are thinking of watching it, I do suggest you try, as I honestly enjoyed it. Form your own opinion.

Atlantis and Treasure Planet were both bangers. I guess they didn’t do well in theaters or whatever but they have high quality world building and story-telling
It's because they weren't as diverse... Yeah.. that's the reason.
Treasure planet was pretty much left to die to say "2d animation isn't profitable anymore" by Disney. They made basically a winnie the pooh remake and princess and the frog afterwards and were done. Making a 3d CGI film in the veign of a film anyone whose actually seen it loves it (treasure planet) with more "modern" characters is honestly a pretty smart move. Just hope it lives up to the hype, seems a bit overly jokey to me.

I understand the negative reactions to the trailer since it reveals a lot but I just watched the movie and I actually really enjoyed it. The story about the three generations coming together is really heartwarming and over all, the movie has has a great message, too. Also, the animation is incredible.

This is some great looking experimental film Disney is working on. The art style has a pretty different look than any other Disney flick. I’m looking forward to this! I just hope it doesn’t bomb like treasure planet however

This looks more like a Dreamworks movie. I saw the poster of it at the theater, thinking it was for a movie coming out in 2023. After watching the trailer it looks like something that would come out in early 2010's.
I miss the 2D animation so much, that's why I watch so many old Disney movies, but this one definitely looks amazing. I can't wait to watch it!

while the trailer may feel like you now now know the entire movie, you don't. that IS the setup. there's a lot of setup, but it's still the setup. the "family reunion" is not the end of the movie. they're together for half the movie.
