his humor is really advanced sometimes, honest. it's a great way to say "human beings can't comprehend something this fast." and he followed it up with "human beings can't comprehend something this LARGE moving this fast." right after, but he was able to make a throughline for the two statements to flow better. while also making it pretty humorous, and giving pause to people who didn't quite get it. "wait, what?" humor is a favorite of mine.

Love that Ryan and Shane casually forgot that after World War I, the was an entire *revolution* and upheaval of the Russian government, meaning that a government funded expedition into a remote and sparsely inhabited area was MAYBE not a top priority for a while.

    • CaptainRasmot
      CaptainRasmot 2 місяці тому +24

Technically the revolution happened *after* World War 1, but Russia was also kinda mired in a number of smaller wars at the time, especially when it came to Poland and Ukraine (ironically enough). That and Russia was ruled by a Czar so scientific ventures were not *exactly* top priority back then. Though also love how they forget that Siberia is an absolute hellish Tundra to get through. So it more than makes sense that their pace was slowed to a crawl.

This was a really fun video!
I was curious so I asked my mom who used to live in Krasnoyarsk and would go with her grandpa to the tundra when she was a little kid if she remembered anything about this. She told me apparently she remembers that a lot of people who would specificly go to those areas say that "the trees would move from one place to another" she herself never went there because they would usually go towards the opposit direction, but it was known as an area that was classified.
She says that there were a lot of legends and weird anomalies in Russia like the natural human/animal rock formations and the cave where aparently only woman could enter, while men would disappear.
But her knowledge is limited since she lived there only till the age of 13 before moving to the baltic states.

I think Ryan at some point halfway through the story forgot that the hypothetical asteroid didn't actually hit the earth's surface, but instead exploded in the air. The blast wave caused trees to be knocked over, sure, but I think it wouldn't cause a crater- at least, not a crater significant enough that it was still there nineteen years later. Minor holes smooth over all the time, and if it was really a bog, that could've contributed to the filling of a minor crater.

There’s a class about conspiracy theories at my university. I didn’t take it but a few of my friends took it and it was apparently pretty interesting. However, I think these two goobers would be the best professors for that class. One is more of a nut case for theories and the other tries to stay down to earth. Both assess the arguments presented by students and everyone discusses them. Idk it probably wouldn’t work that well but I’d probably take it

Just came here after watching this amazing French TV show called OVNI(s) aka UFOs, which has Tunguska play a pivotal roll in the show. They use the black hole theory to explain the event, which is for narrative purposes, but they do explain that a black hole the size of a marble could have the equivalent force of 40 nuclear bombs (that figure is off memory). If you can find the show, I highly recommend it to people, its like Stranger Things meets The X-Files with a light comedic tough to it - one of the best shows I've watched in years. And thought it was cool that they used this real event to tie into the show.
