Got chills from the trailer, I'm sure I'll be crying at the end of the movie
Yep I’m bringing tissues to this one
Chang wang wang!
Ash Wednesday: Prepare for Lent by Sensus Fidelium.
A24 makes good movies. my eyes are moist already. god help me
Literally word for word ( first 5 words lol) nothing but chills and a blissful feeling . This is going to be a great movie .
This movie is just sooo realistic that even their stares and no words just gives you a ton of emotions. It left a hole in my heart
The way it was shot was crazy
Hole*
THIS!
shesh
Saw this yesterday and don’t think I’ve ever been so moved by a film, I started crying from the very first scene and didn’t stop until 15 mins after it ended. but it’s not because it’s dreary or depressing, just so heartfelt and deeply relatable. Such a masterpiece of a film my heart aches remembering it.
I was moved by aftersun as well which is also an A24 film 😅
How much of the film was in English vs Korean with subtitles?
Just walked out of it. What a beautiful film
Man I’m crying just in this trailer 😭
Where to download it online
The quick cut at the end showing them as kids was sublime. Gave me chills. There they are once again the two kids standing together but also apart on their divergent paths. The memory now in nighttime mirroring their present was beautiful visual poetry. A realization that their feelings for each other can only exist in a time and space both real and imaginary. Kudos to Celine Song.
It was very lazy editing and a too safe choice for the director. Lots of it was done paint by the numbers. This film had so much potential…
@Mr. Patrick Aloysius Bartholomew Peekaboo Pffff what are you talking about? The movie was outstanding and brilliantly directed. I doubt you could direct something 1% as good with an unlimited budget.
You’re right. I more than likely could not. I’m not a professional director. Nor am I claiming to be. (Though thanks the compliment… 🤔) It’s a first time effort from a rookie director and screenwriter and it shows. It feels more like a second draft than a final copy. I’m certain this person will improve with time I hope.
It was sooo realistic !!!!! Loved it !!!!it spoke to my heart !!!! Cried several times !!! Just saw it !!! OMG !!!! What a superb film I felt her pain at the end when she was crying !!!! Sooo very real , particularly coming from a recent heartbreak !!!!!!
@Mr. Patrick Aloysius Bartholomew PeekabooWhat’s unique about your take is that it’s completely wrong. Celine Song is going to be nominated at the Oscars for best director and best screenplay, and may very well win those awards. Funny that you say the directing was “paint by the numbers” when every critic is praising her for how thoughtfully written and directed this is, despite her status as a rookie filmmaker.
Saw this last night as the opening film for the Seattle International Film Festival and was just utterly blown away. Such an absolutely beautiful film-I'm so impressed by how Celine Song is completely unafraid to allow a moment to just...breathe. And how her characters convey so much with just a look or a gesture, negating the need for dialogue.
Adding to the overall feel of the film was the score, which had an ethereal quality that made it feel as if you were watching the story unfold as if in a dream. Just stunning. If you have a chance to go see this film, I highly recommend it!
Thanks for sharing, I’m definitely checking this movie out
Did the ending leave you sad?
@Max Bates More...bittersweet, than sad, I think. Yes, there was a certain measure of sadness, but not because of how things worked out between them, necessarily- more because I think it was for the first time, Nora truly accepted what her ambition had both cost and given her. Also bittersweet because I think both of them were saying a definitive goodbye to their childhoods.
The music is giving me chills
I felt like the movie would have worked better as a 10 minute short film.
I think what makes this movie big is that it captures all the small, intimate moments that make up romance. It’s so beautiful to watch!
This is just a trailer and the chemistry between the characters is off the charts, incredible!
It’s almost like they did it intentionally.
Ash Wednesday: Prepare for Lent by Sensus Fidelium.
Great casting!!!
Literally gave me goosebumps
Reconnected with my love after almost 10 years apart this past fall in NYC (I’m thirty). Coincidentally, the first time we saw each other we also ended up in Brooklyn and took pictures in the same places they are taking pictures in the movie with the bridge in the background.
Circumstances took her across the world. I always knew she was the one and on starry nights, red sunsets, during milestones and in silent moments of reflection, I would wonder if I was still in her heart as she was in mine.
When we finally met up, I remember gazing into her eyes for hours searching for answers, we said so much to each other without saying a single word. Turns out, I have been in her heart as much as she’s been in mine.
3 months later this past January I travelled to meet her family. We’re hoping to get engaged mid year and planning a wedding for early 2024. Timing is everything and in our hearts and in our core, we always hoped to be each others forevers.
Happy for you both 🥲🥲🥲🥲🥲
What a beautiful story!!
Congrats mate! Hope all goes well, it's like they say in the movie, in-yun!!!
❤ You give me joy & inspiration with sharing your story! May you be blessed 💫
Woah so happy for both you 💕💕
I just saw this film this past weekend, and I cried like a baby. It definitely tugged at my heart strings because I have been through something similar. The movie is slow, but with a purpose. It’s not slow as in boring. It’s as if you’re taking in every single emotion. You feel the desire, the anxiousness, the warmth, the comfort and the pain of both characters. Absolutely heartfelt, a story many could relate to, as I do 😢myself. I believe that there is a soulmate that you connect with out there. And if you can’t be with that soulmate, you will never find true love again. Just a brilliant film.
What platform were you able to watch the movie on?
@Jazmín Ramos at the movie theater
@Lady Lambeth 🦋 Thank you so much
@Jazmín Ramos you’re very welcome!
When she exhaled at the end and broke down it was the perfect climax of all the energy, tension, hope, love, frustration that she built up. I somehow felt it built up with the audience too
Thanks for the spoiler, bro
true
Yes..
What the Korean guy said before that was… damn. PHEWWW I could cry thinking if it right now lol
Update: The most intimate, heartwarming, and real film I've ever seen. Both funny and bittersweet, the writing and cast make you smile and cry about the nuances of love in practice. Went to watch it last weekend on opening, and its been on my mind since. Celine Song, Greta Lee, Teo Yoo, and John Magaro are the perfect combination of people for depicting how circumstances so often out of our hands can both bring together and break apart the most perfect combinations of people.
do you have any idea when is gonna come out on theaters?
@kevin vitualla It's out in NYC/LA now! I believe June 23rd for all other theaters
This film was absolutely amazing! It really touches your soul and it's realistic. If you've had or are experiencing a similar situation as the characters, this film can move you deeply. I'm so glad I got to experience it in theaters, if you're reading this and are curious, definitely run and go watch it too, it's a great film experience!
Whilst watching this trailer, I can say that at this point I'm fully convinced that A24 can never disappoint us with their films.
While*
I agree!
@idontknow The conjunction whilst means the same as while. While is used to describe time, whilst is used to describe contrast. Whilst can be used as an adverb or conjunction. The sentence "whilst watching this trailer" is grammatically correct (comment generated by GPT-3 AI)
Wait till you see Lamb 😅
I've seen almost their complete catalogue (about 124 movies) I can say there are some definite stinkers lol, but their ratio of good def outweighs the bad.
Greta Lee’s career has been bubbling just beneath the surface for well over a decade at this point and I’ve enjoyed everything she’s touched. I hope we get a lot more of her going forward because she is so damn versatile! Looks like a great film and she looks fantastic! I look forward to seeing it.
She was brilliant in her role in The Morning Show!
Wow, I must say the movie was absolutely great! Even though I typically don't like romance films, I strongly believe that today's cinema truly necessitates a movie like this one: simple with deep emotions and without exaggeration. The carefully crafted scenes, visually stunning shots, and music all meld together. The movie completely surrounds you, carrying you away like a calm stream. Personally, it left me completely astonished.
can't you just visit her instead of moving?
A cinematic masterpiece, defined by its simplicity and elegance. With a remarkable cast and a beautifully crafted narrative, the film delves into the depths of emotion, evoking a poignant sense of nostalgia for bygone love stories. This heartfelt journey through time will resonate with viewers, leaving them deeply moved by its portrayal of enduring romance and the echoes of the past.
❤
I saw this film today with my wife. It was beautifully done. The story rang so true, the love, pain, fear and hopes of the main characters were so we'll portrayed by the actors, the camera and the wisdom of the writer/director. The subject matter, experienced by so many, was very well expressed. Congratulations! And, Thank You.
I saw Past Lives at a film festival. It's an absolutely beautiful love story and I adored it! Everything for the acting to the cinematography to the writing is superb. Would be shocked if this isn't nominated for an Oscar. :)
As a side note: A24 is killing it and give me hope for filmmaking. They back such brilliant, ground-breaking films.
Love story? She is already married, right? 😢
@Michael TruthIt’s a movie about the grey area of love, it’s very thoughtfully done. The way you ask that question sounds like you’re thinking about love in black and white.
@Sam Ferguson Is it in English?
@Michael Truth it’s both in English and Korean but I say don’t watch it’s boring slow no dept no chemistry no anything
@Michael Truththe guy’s a chump though and looks terrible 😂
Among all the superhero movies around us, A24 never seems to fail to deliver real stories.
There is a place for everything. You can praise something without bringing down another thing
Y’all are so bitter
Once you start knowing where to look the “they don’t make good movies anymore” argument falls apart
@Loose screw Entertainment YES!!!! Specially with these guys. Everything Everywhere All At Once made me believe you can make simple and good movies.
So well written and directed; turns out its the same person who did it. I appreciated this movie mostly because I've had a sort of "In-Yun" in my life as well with a girl back in Japan. I was in tears at the end of the movie but felt happy when the girl cried thinking that my girl back in Japan may feel the same way. I am now trying to move to Japan in hopes to have at least one more meeting with her and just see how she's doing. Not going to try to get her back in my life, but definitely going to see her.
It literally brought me to tears. Poetic in a way gently telling a story that channels through 30+ years of life. It’s a friendship built upon the trust and transcends into a caring love. Not about control nor any resentments! Courage at last that puts two of them spiritually connected but also disconnected with nothing but best wishes!
True it was a heartfelt one, one that connects not just dots but fate like moments leading to their now
Wonderful film, fantastic and unbelievably natural performances with superb non-verbal acting too. Poignant and beautifully understated. The simple stories are often the ones best told
Wow. Anyone who has experienced a strong, deep mutual romantic connection with someone, but who knew that it could never be for whatever reason, will instantly connect with this trailer, and I presume the film.
Is the film in English?
@Michael Truth mostly Korean, with subtitles.
Oh I love how the movie basically describes how you can still hold that love, reminiscing all the good memories, but you both know that you don't need to be together at the end anyway. Because those beautiful memories and feelings are only enough to keep you satisfied and happy with what you two have now.
Buxtehude man I've just watched a video talking about how heartbreak can be an addiction and no kidding it was said by an expert
Buxtehude I think it was more about needing closure. I think they both still thought about “what if’s,” and I think her husband knows that bc he doesn’t seem to care if she goes to see him and trusts her enough to do so. If he thought she might leave him I’m sure he would’ve asked that she not go. The guy even says he just wanted to see her one last time so as close as they seem I don’t think either of them had the intention of pushing their relationship any further than friends when reconnecting.
@buxtehude6078 love isn’t exclusive to one person and there are many types of love. You can love and cherish the memories and moments you have with a person at the same time as choosing to live a loving life with someone else. I think it’s sad that if you hold a love for someone who’s played an important part in your life would mean that you don’t actually love the person who’s important to you now and have chosen to spend the rest of your life with. Besides jazmone is right that this was more about closure from a time of her life than her actually thinking of cheating
Beautifully said
@Jazmone777 Nah I've seen the movie lmao for some reason women have a preference to movies that romanticize cheating
The movie made me feel things I wasn't ready for. I finished watching this at 2.05 am yesterday. Cried the whole night. Phenomenal direction, painfully beautiful ❤️
I have seen a comment somewhere saying that this could easily pass as the sequel to ‘In The Mood For Love’ and I absolutely agree with that. The last sequence was incredibly saturated with raw emotions and it definitely tore me into pieces as I couldn’t stop crying. It was definitely very beautiful movie.
Haven’t had films like this pushed out for a long time, glass to see it back 😊👍🏽
Once in a lifetime type of movies. I just watched it a few hours ago this movie has me so emotional. I always wonder what could have been with my ex if the circumstances were different. This is one of the best movies in the past 30 years. Celine and the cast did an amazing job. They deserve best director, best actor and best actress.
I just saw this movie last night!!! It was so, so good. I think it will join a handful of movies that I want to watch each year. Even the trailer, which I saw months ago, stayed with me. I'm so glad I got the opportunity to see it and loved it. The cast, the camerawork, New York, the script.
It wrecked me 😭
i felt the same . when i saw the trailer months ago it stuck with me. finally saw it today and i’ve never been so moved by a film. i’ll be seeing it again
@lex w I'm glad you loved it, too
Was lucky enough to see this at Sundance. You guys aren't ready. It's simply beautiful.
Are you famous?
I haven't cried in a long time, I am looking forward to this bursting my eye dams!
So what, besides the obvious is this about?
I was ready before I even knew.
Screaming rn
I just watched this film and it’s better than I expected it to be. Touches on something that most of us have experienced once in our life.
The K-guy is so annoying because he did not make moves or confess feelings when he was still single. Then he appears back to her life seemingly wanting to rekindle the flame, when he did not light up any in the first place.
There was no backstory as to why he was not able to profess his love. Both of their parents got along well, or is this K-culture I'm missing, that they're not vocal.
One of the greatest trailers ever made for the best movie of the year. Unbelievable how good a trailer can be in showing how good a movie is. A masterpiece, it demands to be seen.
An emotionally intelligent film. Throughout the movie I couldn't help but try to understand the underpinning theme of the story. One thing is true though, that it is deeply human to find, at some point in our lives, pragmatism and the ideals of our youth, warring within us. The two are in desperate conflict with each other. Each having their own set of goals, determined to declare victory over the other. Past Lives explores this duality through a very tender and wonderfully aesthetic screenplay. The film's score was amazingly unique as well. Every piece seemed to fit perfectly with the sentiment of the scene. I particularly enjoyed the constant nonverbal communication displayed between the two main characters. There were these frequent and silent moments shared between them that seemed to force the audience into those moments with them. To feel every passing second of them. Great film!
"Even simply brushing clothes with someone is fate" (옷깃만 스쳐도 인연) is an old Korean proverb that means every interaction between you and another person-even a stranger on the street-is never an accident, but rather the elaborate result of your past lives and theirs intertwining to make that momentary interaction happen. And if even the most seemingly trivial of interactions are the result of elaborate workings of fate (인연), then something as significant as meeting the love of your life is the result of 8000 겁 of fate. This is a commonly known Buddhist teaching. 겁 (Gup) is a measurement of time. Imagine a massive boulder, and imagine that a single raindrop falls on that boulder once every 1000 years. The amount of time it would take for the boulder to finally crack from the water droplets is 1 겁. A single 겁 is an unfathomably long period of time, so 8000 겁 is something that's hard to even attempt to imagine. The saying goes that for every married couple, there's at least 8000 겁 of 인연 (fate) from their past lives that led them to each other.
Makes a night in a club, a music festival, a crammed subway, a sports game, so much more interesting now with those such dogmatic ideas...
Literally brushed by 1000 strangers over a 2 day music festival, wow, sure have lived a long time with the same recycled souls...
Thank you so much for your explanation! It just gave me goosebumps :’)

I believe that In-Yun has its roots in Chinese, specifically in the words "因缘" or "姻缘," both of which mean fate. The latter emphasizes its romantic aspect, and they are both pronounced "Inn-Yuen." I always love the similarities among Eastern Asian cultures. There is a concept in Chinese similar to what you mentioned that states, "前世五百次的回眸,换来今世的一次擦肩而过," which means "Glimpse but once, a past life's glance. Five hundred times, to find the chance, To cross paths with one from before, In this life, and forevermore.". Or "十世修来同船渡,百世修来共枕眠", meaning "Ten lives of good deeds earn a shared boat ride. A hundred more, a shared pillow at your side.".
I love what u wrote. Me tho (laughing) who doesnt have a car; (tho I can drive) always commuting, rubbing elbows, clothing with the masses esp. during rush hours. Now this is gonna make me analize, more. But I love observing people & guesing what their lives like.
If you’re contemplating whether you should watch it, go do it!
Just watched this in the cinema here in Melbourne. I was crying by the end! I could relate to something similar that happened in my life, but such a powerful film. Thank you for this masterpiece ❤
When a trailer makes you cry, you know artists were involved in the making of something that will resonate with everyone's heart no matter what your heart went through.
Ahhh I felt teary eyed just at the trailer. I can't wait to see this! I'm so thankful for A24 letting filmmakers make their life stories
I don’t think I’ll be able to watch this without crying. The chemistry is off the charts. I had a childhood sweetheart. We met when we were 9 and I just immediately felt curious about him, I just wanted to know everything about him. We stayed friends all through middle school and in high school we dated. It wasn’t anything serious but I do have fond memories of it. We reconnected in our early 20s and he broke my heart over and over again. We’re in our mid 30s and I still think of what would have happened if we had stayed together from high school, if he had not done what he did when we were young, if maybe I chose myself too early on without trying for us. I’ll never know I guess.
One of the boring movie ever
I saw this at TIFF. One of the most beautiful and touching movies I have ever seen. It's poetry in motion and I was so moved by how the characters conveyed so much without saying too much. This will remain a lifetime favourite film of mine 🥰
I am so glad that A24 is giving chance to filmmakers to be themselves. To tell stories that make you feel something and think.
This is no small feat in this Marvel saturated world
i love movies that makes me feel and just go with the flow of the movie, without an actual plot
What I really like and respect A24 is that they are the very few studios that really prioritize and capitalize on creating authentic diverse movies. It’s great to see so many new unnamed talents of color get the opportunity to truly showcase their talents on the screen and to the world and its also great to their movies reaching out to diverse audiences and so many of them, for the first time in a long time, actually see their stories and themselves being represented on screen. As an Asian American myself, movies like The Farewell, Minari, and EEAAO really hit close to home for me!
Yeah no other distributor in the history of film has ever let filmmakers do anything they want 🤡
This film is such a masterpiece. I believe i left the cinema in a daze of happiness. Its soo mature and deals with every emotion in the most real way. I think its one of my favourite cinema experiences of all time.
“You make my world so much bigger, and I’m wondeing if I do the same for you.”
One of my fav. quote in the movie.
Same here! I know the movie is all about Nora and Hae Sung’s relationship/missed connection, but I felt that that line from Arthur was one of the most romantic things I’d ever heard.
such a great movie.. no explosions, car chases, cgi.. just people connecting and seeing how life can unfold. loved it
I was really excited to see this movie. It broke my heart at the end for the husband. Once she tells Arthur that he came to visit her. I feel like that should have been the end of the trip for her with him. It confirmed that he was there to see her and only. The disrespect at the bar scene was unbelievable.
The emotional cheating broke my heart. The husband being the third wheel. The audacity to boohoo cry at the end. You ended the relationship live with your decision.
The husband understood what was going on. She didn't hide it from him. He did great in that situation. 👏
@Finding Keno Arthur is built different.
@Nishauntae Johnsonhe’s not built different lol. He has no balls whatsoever, and when he saw how handsome the other guy was, he was crushed 😂
This was a very kind film, even the conflict was handled by the characters in a very kind way. Very touching.
Nice description. Now I'm very intrigued to watch this movie even more
Romance movies are not generally something I seek out, but it looks like the themes in this go deeper than the standard romance film. I am excited to see this!
same
it's definitely a realism take of a romance film rather than a sugarcoated one
Buxtehude they'll prolly make the american husband bad to justify the affair, and say, yeah, she deserve the childhood friend better or something, because " they're destined for each other. "
@Lucy Ferr Not at all. The film and the characters are much more nuanced than a 2 minute trailer could show you. It's a romance film where nobody is right or wrong. Because there are no right or wrong feelings.Just wait and see.
When Hae Sung called Nora one last time, he also knew that that was the last time he was going to see her. The flashback made me cry instantly. You could see that both of them wanted to go back in time - to be 12 year olds again. The ending was really sad and I wish it ended differently.
It tore me to pieces. That walk back home was brutal
The cinematography for this movie this looks amazing. You gotta give it to A24 and the filmmakers they have on deck. This is definitely shot on film and I wish more movies would go back to using that format instead of digital cameras.
A24 are distributors.... they do not have "filmmakers on deck" noob. Filmmakers show their movies off at festivals then A24 reach out saying "hey we want to help distribute your film". Ah nooby noob, you will learn.
A beautiful film well acted. So emotional. Perfect. I think I'm just an old romantic fool and just wish there could be a sequel with a happier ending 😔 Who wouldn't want that connection.
I watched the movie last night and watched the trailer again today, it still gave me chills. Amazing movie.
Hey, I'm from South Korea and I can relate to this trailer... Almost same thing happened to me recently. Around 17 years ago, when I was in elementary, I met a boy whose name was "Present" in Korean. He was my first crush. I liked his shiny round eyes, a cute wide smile, and white teeth. Sadly, I had to move to another school a year later. 18 years passed, and we met each other this January. We have become both 25. He studies in medical school and I just came back to S.Korea after obtaining a diploma from another country. I didn't know he had been reading all my posts on my public diary for a few months when I was back in France. Though he knew the one who was writing the diary was me, he never said "Hi" to me. Then one day I deleted a link that had access to my public diary, so he missed a chance to let me know.
A few years passed, and he noticed one comment in the comment section of one youtube video which showed a whole view of our hometown where we used to play together. That comment was, surprisingly, written by me. He noticed that it was me because I wrote down some of my personal background in the comment. He already knew I was living in France and I had a very special surname that stood out.
So we met each other once again through UAclips and we talked hours and hours on social media. We finally met each other this January and we had a nice Italian lunch, drank coffee and talked for hours and hours... I think we had a nice time.
We are not together tho. Maybe it was because of a bad timing or maybe because I've been having some issues with my mentality and physical health or maybe because he was in senior year at medical school...or maybe because I seemed such a deep person to him. BUT the important thing is, I have a feeling that we are still connected and one day we will see each other once again at right time and a right place.
Magic happens to those who believe in magic :)
Anyways, thank you for reading my magical story💛
Oh dear, this has me clutching my chest and tearing up at my desk! 🥺
Such a beautiful story thank you for sharing your story..❤
If it is meant to be, I hope this 'magic' brings you together again. Good luck, friend.
you are living a before sunset in real life

Just got out of this movie last night. Such a beautiful film. I felt such a deep connection with this movie. Although some things were obviously different. It made me cry. Absolutely loved it.
The last scene broke my heart into 8000 pieces.
Along with the Beginners and Garden State, Past Lives is now one of my fav romance movies. This movie has many details to which all of us can relate to. It makes me think that I don't feel the scene but the emotions I experienced myself at certain points in my life. That's how authentic the movie is.
wasn't emotionally prepared for this movie and ended up sobbing
totally worth it
Well, someone just NAILED the casting for this one. 2 minutes, 24 seconds and the chemistry is rock solid. No need for over the top dialogue when you have such amazing body language. Soundtrack puts the nail in 'emotional' coffin. Can't wait
Just felt in love with Teo Yoo in "love to hate you"
Glad, to see him again 💖
Sasha I believe. But it's hard
I loved the little smile between them at the end! Amazing
Agreed there!
The music is by two members of acclaimed indie band Grizzly Bear. It is gonna be a memorable soundtrack, no question
My emotion got hit again and again, I tried to hold it in throughout the movie but cried my eyes out at the very end after hearing what Haesung said to Nayoung, I said something like that to someone before only to realize later that it was just a foolish wish. We always think about "What could/would have been if that day I did this instead of that? Would we have been together?" but what good does it do when nothing can be changed now
Just the trailer alone makes me want to watch the entire movie. There is something about this that is just so calming, inspirational yet intriguing ✨️
All of these comments are so beautifully written, just shows how real this story can be for anyone. June 2nd can't come fast enough.
Saw this film today along with my boyfriend which we both enjoyed and almost cried together lol. Hit us right in our feels which I knew it would by this beautiful trailer.
Would you emotionally cheat with an old flame right in front of your boyfriend?
Every husband's worst fear is finding out you were just....easy to live with and her heart was elsewhere. Her smiles that never touched her eyes, the lack of conversation on date night, or missing quiet shared moments. The feeling of being alone when she's right next to you...let it go. Let her go. She's too afraid to say it herself. She doesn't have to heart...but maybe you don't either.
Hah Jesus... This comment seriously packed a punch. I'm still nursing an emotional bruise from what a terrifically painful concept that is, and how deftly it was articulated. While I wanted to nod and move on, that idea that you're more or less 'easy to live with' really stopped me in my tracks and made me think.
Well regardless, cheers! That was beautifully worded
This comment. It’s a film on its own❤
😢😢😢 love is always a choice. It's not that he is easy to live with ... but love can be a steady commitment ❤. Butterflies and sparks 💛 ✨️ can fade in time ... but He is the steady person you cannot live without .
Love can be this ... too.
We have lots of " what if" , " the one that got away" story... Remember who is sticking with you till the end. That means something...That is being devoted, committed.
As a woman who has been married to the woman of my dreams for 12 years, this hit me hard because I feel this personally.
0:50 this scene definitely got me, that first meeting was so strong. The chemistry is already perfect, i feel like I felt all of their emotions inside me. I'm ready to cry, the vibe is so real, it's already painful. This movie will definitely leave a beautiful scar.
I kind of felt like she and the American had a much more natural chemistry, she seemed oddly detached from the Korean guy while still feeling nostalgic or sort of revelling in the memory of their shared past.🤔
@Lindisa Mathabela chemistry is expressed differently linguistically and culturally. You have to examine meta behaviours across a longer time period to see how loving an East Asian or South Asian couple is imo. Not just single interactions, like in the west lol
@pulse you can compliment eastern romance without insulting the west you know
There's so much beautiful subtlety to the moments between the starcrossed leads. Just a smile shared feels momentous. It warms the heart even as it steals your breath.
Shout out to the documentary maker for editing this in such a classy way and narrating it. Loved the music at the end, great job Kurt! Your effort is appreciated! Very tastefully done
Documentary?
This trailer is excellent! Great to see it again now, a few weeks after I saw the movie in the cinema and re-immerse in the feeling this beautiful film imparted. Greta Lee did great. They all really did. I loved watching the movie. But to me, it was seeing afterward, and for the first time, a photo of Celine Song -which correctly captured the look in her eyes and her attitude-, that made the veracity of a few scenes totally legit.
I watched this tonight. Very emotional, beautiful and poetic.
Teo Yoo gave an absolutely SHOW with his expressions of love while looking at Nora.
It made me think of the movie Supernova and the pure expressions of love on the 2 main character's faces ( Colin Firth & Stanley Tucci)... So touching, so relatable.

never watching this movie again. not because it wasn't good, but because it was so amazing that I felt it in my soul. it left me with feeling like I was going through my own heartbreak. I truly felt the character's tension, feelings and emotions. it just felt so real - it was terrifying to watch because us viewers don't even know what will happen in this story, and we can only wait to find out just like the characters had waited years to meet. I cried throughout the whole movie, and I don't think I can experience that again. I absolutely loved this movie and recommend it, it is such a beautiful watch and will absolutely leave you speechless.
Can't wait to watch it. I've heard that it was the best movie viewed at Sundance. The concept is gripping. Chills would go through my spine at the thought of meeting my crush 20 years later. So beautiful characters.
@Samuel Stewartit's the thought of it, the "what if" I mean crushes are special, the butterflies, and if they like you back, it's like a fairy tale. And if they were your best friend during childhood? It's a relationship, a feeling, that I don't think even time could separate
@uhlexseeuhthe last sentence hit me
@uhlexseeuh lmao anyone who thinks this is romantic is a cheater for sure
@Samuel Stewart It's like reminiscing the good times, your childhood, the "what ifs." Basing on the trailer, it's going to be bittersweet, since I feel like both characters won't act on their feelings since the girl is married already. It reminds me of the "Alone/Together" movie but better.
@uhlexseeuh crushes generally come and go. It's not something chilling 20 years later when you've grown up
I was repressing so much emotion today and watching this has opened the floodgates at last... so beautiful in a way that breaks your heart endlessly and restores your faith endlessly.
If anyone could recommend any films on a similar wavelength, I'd love to hear it!
Have you seen any of the "Before" movies of Richard Linklater? What about "Already Tomorrow in Hongkong" starring Jamie Chung and Bryan Greenberg. There's also "Before We Go" directed by Chris Evans. One thing I can say though is that the last 2 films I mentioned lack the depth of the "Before" movies. I have a feeling that you will also enjoy watching "Modern Love", it's an Amazon Prime TV series that's a compilation of multiple short films of different directors. Stories that focus on relationships, romance and heartbreak.
i recommend the before series too, directed by richard linklater
Worked this young lady for a 12 hr shift on an ambulance and we had a connection that I've never experienced.
I looked for her for 6 months after that shift and one day I walked into work and there she was. Our relationship lasted almost a year and just like that it was over. Many years later I've come to realize she was the one that got away. Just like in the movie, she is married now and lives in the Northeastern part of the states. I miss her dearly and the love we had. I often wonder if I will ever find someone that I will love on that level again. Perhaps in my next life I will meet the love of my life again. Maybe then it will be a different outcome.
I’m not all that into romance stories. But this actually looks really good in that it looks at the actual layers of a story like this. If it doesn’t turn into Disney channel bullshit I’m game for this movie
this was so insanely good, i dont think ive ever seen a film like this in so long where i forget im not watching the private moments of actual people
I don't have anyone I can call my soulmate, but this movie, for some reason, made me feel like that person exists. Every scene in this movie is not to be missed.
Any movies similar to this? It's been a while since a movie made me feel this way.
its a masterpiece for sure, but this movie hurts even more to those people who dont have (and never had) anyone in their life. Its so weird that most people always have (and had) someone or the other in their lives right from the very beginning of their life, but on the other hand, some people never had anyone, ever, never got even a chance to have any sort of relationships. Such people only imagine what it would feel like to actually have someone who they could call a soulmate, and then correlate with such movies. Doomed romance movies are often a reminder how things actually work in real life for 'normal' people, but still, almost no one talks about those who are still waiting for their "first".
watch 96 tamil movie from 2019, you would be in tears.
This trailer alone gave me chills. Only watching 2 min and I already felt myself enter their world. Can’t wait to see this film in its entirety! 😭
Same. Started tearing up almost straight away
The trailer was enough to break my heart! I don't think I have it in me to watch the whole movie after that but I'm sure its awesome. This is a beautiful trailer.
just watched the movie today, and it was amazing. captures perfectly how deep the relationships we make in life can run :)
My first love broke my heart. This movie reminded me about all the strong feelings I was going through then. About how much I loved her.
It also reminded me to appreciate the one who stays.
I watched it today at the theatre and now just looking at the trailer it gives me chills. This is seriously one if the best if not the best film that I ever watched. Go see it
One of the most impressive film debut since Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs. This movie may be subtle and quiet at times but at its core it is as raw and real as any film in a long while. Unbelievable filmmaking by Celine Song. Remember that name folks
That last scene. It’s the awkward affection and love you still have for someone. It’s distant but also close.
Your last sentence nailed it
It's the realization years later that you two never meant to hurt or alienate one another, it just happened that way. Closure that develops in itself.
Today I watched the movie in the theater and I was so touched. When Nora was crying into Arthur's arms and I cried at the same time. I really love the way the director tell the story. Thanks for the movie. I will go to see the movie again next weekend.
What if the hubby had sent his lady friend away and come and cried in Nora's arms, would it still be touching??
I watched this and felt like this movie was about my life! This movie is spectacular! Acting, story, cinematography! Too good!! ❤
Just seen this movie...
I'm thinking it shouldn't have been done as it is s-o-o-o painful to watch!
Simply put: It is a brilliant film.
Absolutely brilliant.
Yet painful. Like I said.
Heart-wrenchingly so at times, as you never know what journey it will take you on next and what lies in store for all the protagonists involved.
One of the best movies I’ve seen! Would definitely recommend. I loved the whole movie and 2 parts in particular. I don’t really ever cry at movies but cried when I watched “cmon Cmon with Joaquin phoenix” and I bawled my eyes out watching this one lol. Watch it if you are at all interested
Watched the movie last night & really enjoyed it! Definitely felt fresh from your typical romance films. Greta Lee & Teo Yoo have amazing chemistry on screen.
Teo Yoo with his emotional eyes, charming smile above all this man's voice, OMG! he is the perfect cast for that role . All the actors portraying their roles so realistic, definitely would need boxes of tissues for sure to watch this :(
YES!!
He’s so dreamy ❤
Teo Yoo have the charisma of jang dong gun and gong yoo combined. eloquently put in the movie. good chemistry with Greta Lee
I fell for him since I watch (Chocolate) k-drama
And if you've ever heard him speaking German, you'd be crushed to gobsmacked !🥹❤️🔥
this is my life, I met a guy from Japan in my country and we dated at a distance, he also came to me. Then there was Covid, and we stopped talking for a year. he told me to live my life. After that I had a lot of grief, but I found a person who supported me and we started dating. when the Japanese guy found out about this, he came to me and asked to be with him, but I could not betray my boyfriend. this movie made me relive it
Just saw this movie in theaters and loved it! Very “slice of life” and realistic in a way that is hard to find in US productions.
I just read an article about this and got to know it's a awesome movie...
This is such a beautifully edited trailer. What a tender, compelling, sweet story. It feels so good to see something so tender and to have it move me too my core. The abrasiveness of life has been suffocating lately. The music, the storyline, and the vulnerability of the characters has me soaked in tears and so relieved to not be bombarded by crass vulgarity and violence. I want to find the fucking pause button on life and keep it solely on these tender, quiet, lovely, joyful, awe inspiring moments. I also appreciate when films pay such beautiful homage to cultural philosophies/wisdom such as this one regarding past lives and its poetic interpretation of our daily life.
Greta Lee is always outstanding, I always believe her characters as authentic people. I hope this film finally moves her to more lead roles rather than so many playing the best friend etc
Simple, fresh and beautifully done. I just love that movie. Deep and thoughtful. The ending just wow....moving !!!❤
I'm so in love with this movie -- one of the best films I have seen in years. This movie alone has made Celine Song one of my favorite directors
You saw it at Sundance?!😮
Are you famous?
@Andyyoureastar yeah! got super lucky on the waitlist and was able to see the premiere
Just tell me what happens, I don't plan on watching.
@szargos casual
Saw this yesterday!! It was a really realistic movie for me with giving this Mellow vibes i really cried after watching this the feeling of "what if" and just plain sadness of accepting reality of what we have and what was lost in the hopes of pursuing something.
Korean cinema is taking the world over with its authenticity, fearlessness, wit, and delicate beauty. I’m so happy that it exists!
Absolutely!
Me too🥺🥺🥺 it’s so refreshing to see original ideas executed so well❤
I have watched this trailer more than I'll admit because the feelings it evokes in me are so visceral and nostalgic. "What if" lives within all of us. Beautiful. 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Looks like a great movie, I don't even know how I would want it to end!
This is the best movie I've seen in a while. The ending broke me but it was perfect.
The movie broke me and pissed me off. The what ifs should’ve been a If!!! And will!!!
This film really gave me the feels and shows how much love it has
I saw this film last night and it was absolutely incredible. I cried so hard and I can't stop thinking about the ending. I hope the next life is their 8000th layer 🥲
This film was beautiful made such a heartfelt movie!! So captivating are the characters and the story!! 1,000% recommend, A24 is such a great production house! Its got all the feels!
