That is awesome Julian and you rescuing her. I think how you are handling her is right on point. Rescues with issues are very special and it takes special people to care for them. Most of the rescues with issues end up either brought back or to a shelter which is said. I completely understand where you are with bunny. 6 years ago we rescued a 4 year old pitbull who spent the 1st 3 1/2 years of her life in a cage. When we got her she was a lot like bunny, didn't know what anything was or how to play. I remember the 1st time the phone rang she jumped and ran. The toilet flushing seemed to get her! Anything you had in your hand she wanted to see, like what is that. It was a little disheartening in the beginning because she just wanted to lay in our bed, sleep and be left alone although she would lick you to death she was kinda of a loner. It bother my husband a lot but I told him we have to let her move at her pace and let her know she is loved and safe. Well after 6 years, the walls she built up in her early years has come down significantly with her trusting and loving us. She still has her moments when she wants nothing to do with us but for the majority of the time she is by my side wanting love, attention and comfort. Letting Bunny move at her pace is the perfect thing to do, she will trust more and become more comfortable on her terms, don't push her, it might take months or years and maybe a lot of setbacks, but it is well worth it. Again kudos to the both of you!

Welcome to the unique world of Greyhounds! Ive been in GH adoption for 22 years having had 23 of my own and I want to share that the most important thing (which you already know!) is patience, compassion, consistency and being ready for a world of firsts and many years of laughter, tears and love filled memories ahead.
Thank you for your commitment and understanding what she as a GH, and everyone, needs. You are amazingly aware and knowledgeable of dog behaviors and open to the many qwirks and uniquenesses of these needle nosed wonders. You are dream adopters!

Poor dog wearing a muzzle all that time without ever earning the reason to wear it.

Because of the way greyhounds are raised, 99 percent of general life they are unfamiliar with. Things other dogs know about greyhounds do not have a clue about. So it's a long challenge with thousands of firsts. Some are okay some are big time scary. Both visual and auditory firsts.
They are big time couch potatoes. That was my biggest shock about greyhounds. They make great apartment dogs. Walks and once a week dog park and that keeps them happy. A large bed or sofa makes them happier.

  • TellyJart
    TellyJart 5 днів тому

Oh my god making them meet at the park is genius! It makes them think it’s a friend and so they’re not intimidated. So when you bring them home it’s just like “woah I get to bring my new friend home yay!!”

This video should be compulsory viewing for anyone who gets a rescue dog. For all dog owners, in fact! I have never watched a video of yours before but your name has come up so many times in different areas of the Internet that I was curious and had to give one a go. I realise your channel wasn’t started for the purpose of making dog videos and that you make many videos which have nothing to do with dogs - but if this video is anything to go by, then I think you’re dog videos are just fascinating. Bunny couldn’t have found a better home or a better family!
I love that the two of you seem completely on the same page when it comes to dogs and how to care for them. You both have a lovely big home and wonderful outside area, and the fact that you share that with a pack of dogs is simply brilliant. I found this video so moving to watch because it was as if you took the words out of my mouth - I agree so strongly with everything you say in that final section. Also, you clearly know and understand dogs in a way that many dog owners sadly do not. It’s experience of course, but along with a strong willingness to learn, the motivation to educate yourselves - but also powerful intuition: the capability of being able to put yourselves in a dog’s skin and see the world from their point of view. I think your hard work, your time and patience but also the very calm, very soothing yet solid and dependable auras are just perfect for a rescue animal, especially one like Bunny who is timid and shy and clearly needs all the love, time, patience and calm you both so generously provide. I loved what you said about going at HER pace - that’s so important with a rescue animal and something that many people struggle with as they want to see progress and results right away. It’s a huge deal for any rescue dog who’s had a difficult start in life to suddenly find themselves in a new family, new home and new routine and to take it all in first of all and then feel completely comfortable. For many rescue dogs it’s a life’s work - on the part of the dog as well as on the part of the owner. And too few people realise or understand that when they rush out full of excitement to bring a rescue dog into their homes - it’s fun and exciting for them of course, but often a time of great stress and anxiety for a dog who must first cope with the loss of their former home and routine and people who cared for it and then learn to find their place and learn to trust their new family. They have no idea what to expect and no idea if they are going to be treated well. And they must feel so vulnerable - dependent on us humans for even the most basic of care but unsure if they will even receive that, especially if they’ve suffered neglect or abuse in the past. They get no choice in where they live and who they live with and that must be terrifying. Yet many owners think that if they’re providing all that the dog needs in terms of physical comfort and care then the dog should be happy and settled almost from day one - forgetting that the dog has often been through some trauma that has to be worked through and which can take a very long time.
I’d be interested to know if you’ve been told any of Bunny’s history. You mention all the daily sights and sounds on walks and in the home being completely new to her, which has me wondering where she has been for the first three years of her life. That’s a dreadfully long time to go without walks or socialisation or a loving family and home where normal household and street sounds go on. It really makes me shudder to think she could have missed so much for so long and what the first three years of her life must have been like for this to have even occurred! However, I’m so glad she has found you as I can already see she will thrive and flourish with you both in your very special family, and gosh - she is so very beautiful!
Thank you so much for this video and for the absolute stellar job you are doing with Bunny. I just wish more people could be like the two of you and take their rescue dogs’ mental health and healing process as seriously as they do their physical care! But Bunny has found a simply wonderful home!
    ♥️ 😊 🌸 🐶 🐕 🐾

she probably was trained to be passive and just sit while she was giving blood, which was often I guess. The screens may have been the monitors of her vitals when she was giving blood and the visuals on your screens are different but not scary in the same way. she is seeing the world of normal life for the very first time and you are all being so gentle with her it is beautiful thing. I give her about two months to figure it all out and fit in and realize it is okay to be a dog. She may also rest all the time because there is so much learning and that is exhausting. we process new information in our sleep sometimes. she will not always be this timid. you guys are awesome and the boys are being amazingly good to her. I think she is loving it. And Kermit likes having her to say I have survived worse than you, what have you got to cry about? very healthy for both of them. What a beautiful thing.

Is the muzzle standard when introducing rescues? I’ve never had to introduce my rescues to dogs I already had, so, just curious. And why at the age of 3 had she never seen things like balls if she’d just donated blood? I feel like I missed chunks of her story but I’m so glad they’ve got her.

We foster beagles and hound dogs. We've had some really sad dogs. Dogs that were treated HORRIBLY TERRIBLE. Dogs fm puppy mills used as breeder dogs and puppies fm mills. And dogs fm people who treated them ok but just couldnt keep them. And out of the 20 or so dogs only one was not able to be "rehabilitated". Mr Puddles a middle aged beagle dog who lived on a farm witj an old man who kept him tied outside for most of the time. Puddles ran away, dug out of the back yard..after being here about a month. My bf went in the truck and found her but when trying to corral him he bit my bf and took off. He lived on the run for awhile. People seem him 8miles away coming in and out of the woods.. Finally found him 2months later. He was in the woods like an old hermit man. He went back with the founders of the rescue. But most of our rescues were successful and all found their forever homes. The best was the pregnant momma dog that ended up having 9 healthy puppies. That was amazing to be a part of but sad bc i wanted to keep them all. But all the pupps were adopted and the momma dog as well. Hound Song Rescue out of Hammond IN.
