A fine of $300.00.?I had to go back to see if i heard it right and I did. That is ridiculous! I hope all the people who lived in that apartment building sue not only the owner but they need to sue the city of Davenport also. The city knew the owner was not in compliance and did nothing.
Class action. Hopefully a probono lawyer will step up 😊
That is ridiculous $300 fine, who ever on their city council that passed that law should be ashamed of themselves along with the current city council for allowing that despicable law to stay at that amount. I understand that the landlord is not making millions from that building but there should be a large enough fine to ensure that they keep their buildings up to code and safe for the tenants.
This reminds me of the garage collapse in NYC. The structure was unsound . How did it pass inspection?.

Today’s inspiring America hit a home with me (having lost my first daughter Arielle to medical malpractice and negligence in the US). Beautiful and thoughtful note from “ little Grace “ s grandparents. I can understand their deep love for a lost loved one.
The car crash was terrifying, glad the drivers survived..prayers for speedy recovery.
I cried. A moving story. Thank her grandparents.

I can taste the irony. Ewwww!
Tax the 1%. Go back to 50s era tax rates so we CAN make America great again. That would pay off our debts so freaking fast. Instead we are being taxed to subsidize other people’s income since the multi billionaires are given so many tax subsidies for their businesses, and are essentially paying a small percentage of their income, when compared to those making $100k. Minimum wage is STILL $7.25/hr!!! You need a job to collect welfare, so tax payers are essentially the ones employing them. Otherwise, they’d just stay unemployed, because it’s just not worth it.
Student debt is a Commitment they made. I do understand, I paid mine. I was burdened, not everyone needs to be.
Maybe The Middle Road ?

Honestly I thought they were just going to default, because I believed that they were selfish and stubborn enough to let it happen if they didnt get their way, like children fighting over a toy and throwing it away because it is time for the sibling to play with it..
That message behind the mirror on the aircraft was touching. I hope they have moved the image and message to the cockpit. That her grandparents took time to fix it to the wall means that some ghoul might take the time to remove it without anyone knowing it has gone.

Agreed! It's unbelievable that that's all they'd have to pay... and just reinforces the fact that it's cheaper to neglect these properties and the people inside them, than to actually care about their safety and well-being.....
They should sue all of the local government agencies that ignored their serious concerns for years. These agencies knew of other agencies to contact and become their voice of needed safety. That is a 104 year old building supposedly with historical value, but I doubt it. Unless it has something important like unique architecture. No agency cares to send a representative to walk in and start a basic visual of the building even if it includes law enforcement to help document. Every single agency that was contacted including yearly fire inspections and building inspectors, and inspections including electrical for frayed wires, plumbing inspectors...am sure there are local all they way to federal laws in place. All of them should be sued so the survivors and pets that were trapped can start the process of getting over the years long trauma of living with common sense knowing that's all they could afford and knew they were stuck financially in this nightmare trap ignored. Then punished by authorities telling them to put up and shut up with the residents fearing the one inevitable would happen which it did. Not just the event of suffering the building collapse but the years of voicing common sense concerns and ignored with no other legal, affordable place to relocate other than the streets of homelessness.

If the fine is only $300....now we know why the building never got fixed. The repairs obviously cost more than $300, so the owner actually made money by just taking the fine. Wow, Iowa, what were you thinking?? I thought Florida had the most irresponsible building codes.

Definitely need rescue experts from out of state. Moving too fast Rescuers in Florida and Turkey waited before making decisions on stop searching and demotion.
Just curious, if the government defaults, who will suffer from it worst and first? The people making the decisions or the people their making the decisions for? It seems that no matter what happens with the debt ceiling, the only people that will and or going to suffer, is the everyday citizen. And not only that, aren't there currently P.A.C backed politicians going around the country asking already struggling people for money to fund their " campaign ", while multiple states and cities are suffering from poverty and natural disasters? Why aren't they helping those in need, instead of asking for more money?
We will not default....this is a regular occurrence ...legislators must looks if they are actually accomplishing something....smoke and mirrors
The impact will be felt around the world. Some countries aren’t recovering well from the pandemic so this could tip dozens of countries (if not more) into recession. It’s insane that a handful of people have the power to mess up the entire global financial system.

Look into who owns it and you'll quickly understand why they were wanting to tear it down while people and pets were still inside it unaccounted for. This is likely a cover-up and news is just reporting the official story that's spoon fed to them by the city of davenport.

@Chris, Just Chris u do not need to look anywhere - even a blind hedgehog in a forest understood that was a coverup the very second they said they were going to tear it down after a few hours of search. Also if my cats were trapped there i would be going there no matter what. I m very glad that people protested and the building was not demolished before pets were saved. I assume people were at work while the building collapsed, because who leaves their pets behind when running for safety.
If they had never allowed social security funds to be loaned, we would not have the national debt we have now. What happened since then? Big business got bigger through our debt and an oligarch has consolidated power.

How can you demolish a building without making sure that there are no survivors they just got through pulling animals out there still two people missing and until you find their bodies there should be no demolition this is unacceptable
Even in earthquakes in our country or worldwide, no one gets demolition permits at breakneck speed. They pick through the rubble for survivors first. Something very 'off'.

You must be younger than I am. Am a granny in my '60s. Legal age to vote was in the early '80s. Legal versus illegal immigration one of about top four or five POTUS campaign topics to throw human interest dog bones at us potential voters to get us interested to vote. The others are talks about lowering taxes yet last few decades our countrys politicians left us a deficit so they argue over, thinking they are working hard for the taxpayers dime. Abortion is another. There is another topic or two, but my sleepy granny mind can't remember in this moment. It's like an agenda. Nothing gets solved. Just topics that pull at the heartstrings for many voters that are controversial.

These politicians are arguing over budget issues in a debt ceiling vote instead of working on it during budget votes. And since they don't understand money very well I will explain it to them. Expand EBT, raise Social Security payments and restore the Child Tax Credits from the pandemic so Americans can survive this inflation and price gouging. We all will spend that money and it will increase consumer confidence. The idea is cash flow keeps economies and businesses and households going. Cash comes in, cash goes out, rinse and repeat.
You're right. I know if people don't get paid there's going to be a lot of angry people in this country. The ones that worked all their lives and put into it 40 50 60 years however long. They're going to be upset and their kids going to be upset because it.

You know what prevents crashes even better? Proper driver training and discipline behind the wheel. Americas drivers don’t take driving seriously and they just keep making “safety systems” “better” which in turn makes drivers worse. As a professional driving coach, I am appalled

The car that gained flight after driving over the car hauler, maybe too many people are distracted by their cellphone. I hope this taught her a lesson and she should be thankful for her life.

I hope the scans of that building are retained for legal reasons. Whoever was inspecting and looking the other way on that building and the owner need to be held accountable.

1) Civil lawsuits will abound for the owner of that apt. building, have no doubt.
2) The braking systems installed need to also give drivers a way to steer their cars away from a collision. I don't think that is being built in and if it isn't there will probably be more deaths, not less.
3) Best story was little Grace Kelly's. Her Grandparent's way of honoring her memory was beautiful.
