Lyrics:
Of all the money that e'er I had
I've spent it in good company
And all the harm that ever I done
Alas it was to none but me
For all I've done for want of wit
To memory now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all
Oh, all the comrades that e'er I had
They're sorry for my going away
And of all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They'd wish me one more day to stay
But as it falls unto my lot
That I must go and you must not
I'll gently rise and I'll softly call
Good night and joy be with you all
I need an album of Hozier covering traditional Irish songs
That is also my wish

Yes!!!
*Hozier's Irish accent has now majestically appeared as a shining bright white unicorn emerging from a mystical forest*
it's always been there, love.
Im guessing he's putting it on a bit here to emphasize the song lyrics.
I've noticed that a lot of singers that have accents don't have much of one when they sing. I think it has to do with how they pronounce their vowels and consonants more deliberately when singing vs speaking. I have heard a couple of Hozier's songs where he has a discernable accent, but on most I can barely tell he has one, if I can tell at all.
yes! described it perfectly!!! lmao
The Unicorn is the traditional animal of Scotland. Ironic really. Two cultures and Lands so warred upon and their People(s) driven so nearly to extinction so many times. Yet We Both Maintain. Hold Fast To Our Families, Loved Ones, Faiths, Traditions And Cultures. What Else Is Left For The Few Remaining?
His natural Irish accent really shines in this ballad. Lovely.
It is an Irish ballad, and he’s definitely playing into it. But yes overall!
This is not an Irish balad. Is a Scottish balad.
His British so it helps
@Hey it's Beth xo he is Irish .. not remotely British
Laura L G Forgive me for getting the two mixed up.
Just like Hozier’s own poetic and melodic creations, his rendition of The Parting Glass moves me. I’m so grateful to hear him sing an Irish ballad. I am an absolute fan!
I AGREE!!
Scottish Ballad
@GCR REMOTE it's irish
@jesus christ speedruns Scottish.... It's Scots dialect lol but also sung in Ireland :) Celts
It's a Scottish song...feel free to enjoy it
I’m actually grateful for the fact there is no audience, the uninterrupted engagement and haunting silence at the end make this so much more powerful for me.
I hadn't heard this song until today, when I attended the funeral of a 14 year old neighbour who died by suicide last week. This song is perfect, and beautiful, and utterly heartbreaking. I doubt I will ever hear it again without shedding a tear for Jack.
Please, if you ever find yourself lost in darkness, keep reaching out. There is a light somewhere for you.
❤
Polly RG Such a sad, horrible loss. God be with all concerned. 😢 I see your post was two years ago. A grief like that has an impact for years afterward--till the end of life in some case. So if you see this, my heart goes out to you still.
I'm sorry Jack is not here with us anymore. Suicide is never easy to experience from the outside, but it is especially difficult when a child is the one we lose. I hope Jack is at peace now, at the very least. 😔
I heard this beautiful diamond ruby gem whatever you’d like to call it disguised as a song for the first time on Ed sheerans + album. It’s a hidden track at the end of “give me love”.
God bless you
This came out just weeks after my husband died. I cried awake on my couch with that endless ache and I remember being grateful for what felt like a message. We were huge fans of hozier. We saw him just a couple months before.
When I listen now it takes me right back to my couch in the middle of that night, swirling around in dozens of emotions. And that ache. That ache.
Hugs. No words... music and hugs
I am sorry for your enormous loss.
Of all the money that e'er I had
I've spent it in good company
And of all the harm that e'er I've done
Alas it was to none but me
For all I've done for want of wit
To memory now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all
Of all the comrades that e'er I had
They are sorry for my going away
And of all the sweethearts that e'er I had
They would wish me one more day to stay
But since it falls unto my lot
That I must go and you must not
I'll gently rise and I'll softly call
Good night and joy be with you all
What is e'er
@shivani makode E'er = ever
@nickyc0le thankyou
@shivani makode You're welcome! 🙂
Thanks.
Hozier singing my favourite song. This is ethereal, something I never thought I would hear.
ProjectAnimation RIGHT!!
I figured he'd do it at some point. I mean he is Irish.
My friend has this played at his funeral a few years ago.. thank you hozier for singing this.... RIP chris 1999-2016
oh just 17. so very sad. i'm so sorry.
So young.
May God have mercy on his soul
(Whoever the God he desired was)

with the whole 'global pandemic and everybody's locked inside' thing going on, I think I really needed some Hozier today. thanks :)
Have you heard his #Togetherathome concert?
BelleOfTheBeast I need Hozier every day regardless
it's a traditional farewell drinking/funeral song, so it's particularly poignant right now.
You know you spent to my time on your phone when you read "seeded" instead of "needed".
God this comment was 10 months ago and were still listening to hozier hoping this pandemic stuff will be over
I know more that 100 singers. But obviously hozier stands out. His voice just gives you such a calming feeling and such happiness and relaxation. In this pandemic thing we really really needed this. But hope hozier is safe ❤❤❤. Cuz like, he was the principal aspect of my life and in my depressed time i really lived because of him and his angelic voice. Thank you for helping out with my life❤❤
hope you are doing alright, today and always;)
Such a stunning voice. I love that he stuck to singing it in the classic Celtic style, it's such a beautiful song, no reason to change it
Peacelily I dont where your learning your history but Celtic is very much a real thing, it's not strictly an Irish term but a collection of different regions one of them being Ireland. I am Irish and grew up around, and still know a lot of Irish people(many of the from Ireland) and never once heard any one of them take offense to the word Celtic
Peacelily Also for the record, if Celtic music didn't exist (which: definitely does) then The Parting Glass would be Scottish, not Irish.
This is exactly what we needed to go through this rough times! His voice and the sweetness of his spirit 🍂
Thank you Andrew, you’re such an amazing human being! ✨
We’ll get through this together. Take care everyone!
Good night and joy be with you all 🖤✨
Never in a million years would I dream of Hozier singing one of the most beautiful songs I have heard... but here we are. Blessed. 🙏
His heart is as complex as his voice. So many layers, each better than the next. I shall forever envy and appreciate its peace and soothing spirit. Thank you, Andrew.
Onions also have many layers
Now that is real talent. No flashy lights, no autotune, no studio touchups. Just a voice and a piano. Wow!
Cuando cantas con el alma, suena a algo parecido a esto. No es sólo la voz de Hozier, es la voz Hozier a través de su alma como reflejo. ❤
The emotion in Hozier’s voice and the gentleness of Alex’s piano make me want to cry… such a poignant performance.
Edit: This is such a hauntingly beautiful song I can’t stop thinking about it. Parsed through the most recommended covers on youtube and this remains my favorite rendition with Cara Dillon’s coming in a close second. Different vibes but both beautiful.
I think this is the most beautiful version of this song I’ve ever heard :)
With tears I am here. A year upon my father's own death. This is the only song that will allow for me to be present in that grief without allowing it to destroy me. To celebrate the life and say "dammit you are deadly missed" -- a parting glass, a year on my father. Dammit you ! why must life be so long, yet short at the same time.
His voice really just makes me want to sip tea and cry while looking out onto a landscape
Hozier is one of the few musicians that can sing a ballot and get me to tears about it, and in a way, I appreciate that kind of reaction.
in this quarantine you only need one live on UAclips to improve everything Hozier ♡
Up
Tu é demais, que voz💚
Everything he does goes right to the heart.
I've seen this before and hearing Hozier sing still gave me goosebumps, this is exactly what I needed with the whole pandemic thing going on :)
One of the most beautiful ballads, lilting, lamenting and the very essence of our celtic souls. Go raibh míle maith agat Hozier 💚💚💚
This video is so beautiful. Andrew is such a talented singer it's unreal💚
I lately discovered this masterpiece. One thing I can say. My ear is too demanding and this makes me cry
This was the song that my grandfathers friends sang together to him at the hospital and at his memorial. It made me cry then, and every time since. I love this rendition because the pacing and the way he sings it reminds me so much of that day... miss you grandpa.
Listening to this on the one year anniversary of me and my brothers and sisters starting the fire academy. Truly blessed to spend it with them. Happy St. Paddy's
Heartbreakingly beautiful, sad yet peaceful and calm. I feel all the emotions. Well done, I really needed this. Thank you Andrew.
Hozier is dedicated to releasing every song in existence except “But the Wages” at this point
And blood
And The love of 💔
Salary increase isn't really the most pressing matter when people are sick and so many are dying and a lot of people don't even have any wages to look forward to.
I want it released so fucking bad
🎶They’ve all got released but the wages🎶
Thank you Andrew and Alex. Perfect performance. It breaks my heart. Causes goosebumps. So beautiful and sad
Me encanta la voz de este hombre 😍❤
i just spent 20 minutes crying after rewatching pride and prejudice (and other cathartic reasons non-related to the movie), opened youtube and this was the first thing
made me breathe what i needed
thank you for this beautiful rendition
This is one of my favorite tunes to play on my fiddle. Its always been a favorite. Christ, he nails the hell out of it! I hope Hozier's voice is the spirit that takes me to the other side.
Sem palavras pra descrever o quanto eu admiro o trabalho desse cara 😍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Que incrível! ❤️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This cover and the one by the High Kings I feel like captures the true spirit of the song. I'm not saying the other covers aren't good, but those two covers are both haunting and beautiful.
I love his style, his voice❤
Still can't listen without crying... Thank you so much Andrew. This song means everything to me right now.
Absolutely beautiful rendition of a beautiful song.
There's something about Irish people when they sing. I can't explain it like there is something about their voice they are like Sirens. You hear one of their song you're hooked.
How is it that his voice sounds better live than recorded
I always need a hozier at this time. He gives me the strength to fight the enemy we all can't see
A traditional song that is now international; and beautifully and very emotionally sung by Hozier; thank you for putting this on UAclips; much appreciated.
The emotion in his voice inspires me
Hozier's voice is so beautiful. It seems like he has some knowledge of port béil and it really comes out in songs like this one
We always sing this song at the closing gate of the Ohio Renaissance Festival, it means a lot to everyone on cast. When I first heard your version here it absolutely blew me away 💕
Absolutely magical!! This performance never fails to make me tear up!! 👏🏼👏🏼💚
His voice is so soulful and soothing. Hozier ❤
Would give ya chills, absolute top class performance
Hozier's music always makes me tear up...especially during a pandemic
Beautiful performance. Love this guy, wow.
Это божественно.
Literally the best thing I have ever heard in my life 🙏🏽💚🇮🇪
Fantastic cover, annoys me that no one ever tends to do the song in its entirety!
Wow. I had goosebumps the whole time.
Very rarely do I find a song that causes me to weep the first time I ever listen to it.
De arrepiar essa música ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
What a heavenly voice absolutely beautiful ❤❤
Omg one of my favourite songs of ALL TIMES! And one of the best versions I've heard so far! Such a great cover! Well done Hozier!
Just give a deep song to Hozier and he will destroy it, amzing this guy's voice
You make me want to learn more about Irish culture. So beautiful song and voice 🖤💚
When I pass on to the next life, I would love nothing more than to have this played at my funeral...
First note and I teared up. This is beautiful.
In this pandemic this is EXACTLY what I’ve needed 🖤
Mds que homem incrível
we had to do this in chorus and now i love this song even more
I have heard a lot of versions of this song. Both happy and sad. And this rendition to me is truly haunting. Especially when you know of the time it was sung. This is also a truly beautiful cover and a lot of talent with this singer. But its also a version that once heard can never truly leave you thinking again of that time and the meaning of the song and the way its sung. Nice going Hozier
We will get through this. Not for ourselves, but for those that couldn't.
Masterpiece. Brilliant. Chilling. Gorgeous. Magnificent. Vocals. 💕💕💕💕💕
Your art is amazing. Greetings and good vibes from México
Has to be,hands down my favourite version of this song!
I am sobbing, watching this on repeat. You angel thank you!♥️
Wow wow wow wow I got such chills from listening to this!!! Absolutely amazing ✨❤️
Thank you for sharing your majestic talent with us, Hozier.
it is impossible to dislike such a flawless and utterly beautiful performance ❤️
Love it Hozier... keep up with new songs.. God bless
It couldn't be any more perfect! Hozier you are truly great!
It's so Fascinating. I felt crying and magical at the same time.
Edit: I just remembered I heard this from assassin's creed black flag!😭 Now im really crying because of that memory.
I think that's just part of Irish music in general. If you're not crying through the smiles, are you really listening to Irish music?
Look, I always cry when I hear this song. But you know it's a great cover if you listen to it, and cry even harder than usual.
Oh, golly. Every time he sings, I shed a tear. Such raw, emotional power. His singing technique has vastly improved since I began listening to hi.
I just love this man. I wish the world acknowledges his talent and his voice. He is such a old soul oh my god I’m gonna cry.
Me sadly searching iTunes to buy his Irish songs. 😭 Why is there none?! The humors of whiskey is so beautiful from him too. ❤️
The literal voice of an ANGEL!!
His voice is beautiful. He always makes me cry
Why is he such a sweet angel?! His voice makes me cry (way more than i should admit)
Such a beautiful song and a beautiful voice.
Wow!!!
No other words needed, but I will add amazing. This guy did very well on this piece and with much feeling. But oft times, we just "know" the singer and the song. The author is rarely a factor. To the author, I am spechless and my heart is full.
Stunning. He sang with heart ans. Soul
I like this version because it has one singular voice delivering the emotion rather than several competing in harmony. Just feels better with one.
❤️ such a soulful and beautiful voice.
I love all of his songs, but I’ve been listening to and singing this for days...beautiful rendition of this song.
I love this man and his voice and music so much!! Whatever he sings is just incredible!! I'm truly blessed that I have watched him live!! He came to Greece!! He was so so amazing!!
Beautiful, wonderful, my favourite rendition!
Mano é perfeito é hozier 🎶🎵🎶🎵👋👋👋👋👋👋
Gives me chills!!
Stunning. This would be beautiful over some footage of 🇮🇪 or a movie. 💙 With love to all medical staff working to save the ones we love. Thank you Hozier. Moving and really special 💙
